Poor build quality
Pros:>Can play right out of the box>Nice screen>Good input/output options>D-pad is nice qualityCons>SD card is not 64GB – it is less than 50GB>Battery is permanently dead and will not charge after about a month – just in time for the return window to close>If the unit is on, it dies quickly, even if the screen is off>Y button not always>Does not always boot up – will remain stuck on the logo screen>When it does manage to boot successfully, takes an incredibly long timeI probably got a bad unit, but it’s incredibly frustrating when these problems crop up shortly after moderate use and the box is tossed since it seems like a done deal. The battery dying right after the return window feels like a scam.

Christmas gift for 7 year old
My daughter has enjoyed this game for the past 7 months. I would definitely buy it for a child just getting into gaming. Many options to add more games and it comes with a lot installed too!

It’s a good emulation machineâwhen it actually boots
This is an Anbernic-branded handheld console. This is the “Plus” model, which is an upgrade from the RG35XX. I chose the translucent black case, which looks really cool. A 64GB micro SD card is included, which contains both the Linux-based operating system and the games. The console is powered by an Allwinner H700 quad-core CPU at 1.5GHz, and has 1GB of RAM.Unfortunately, mine did not work out of the box. It hung at boot on the “ANBERNIC” logo. I couldn’t get past this, suggesting a corrupted OS install or damaged SD card. I was able to download a system image from Anbernic’s website, but of course this doesn’t have any game ROMs. I wrote the image to a known-good SD card, and the system booted okay. Fortunately, I was able to copy many of the ROMs I wanted from the damaged SD card that shipped with the device. No “Mario” games are included, which isn’t a surprise as this would provoke the white collar ninjas. There’s nothing stopping you from dealing with this problem yourself (but of course, don’t do that).Controls-wise, the D-pad is just okay. It’s not great, but it does the job. The face buttons, shoulder and trigger buttons seem fine. All the buttons are the silicone membrane type except for the four shoulder and trigger buttons on the back. The 4:3 aspect LCD screen is pretty nice. It’s bright. The sound is also pretty good, considering the size of the thing. It sounds clear and gets loud enough. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom as well. The emulation is mostly done with Retroarch. It seems to play PS1 titles okay, which is great! As a test, I tried Pepsiman for laughs (which is actually pretty fun, similar to Temple Run), and it ran fine. The FMV scenes with the “TV Game Guy” work too.A few other thoughts:The device won’t boot without the SD card installed. I believe the bootloader is set up to boot from the SD card, and the drivers to turn on the display, backlight and power LED never get loaded if the kernel doesn’t load. So, booting with no SD makes it seem like the device is dead, but really it’s powered on and just stuck at the bootloader. This also means you might be able to replace the OS with something else later on, but I’m no expert on this.I checked the battery, and it’s labeled as 3300mAh.A screen protector is included in the box. Probably a good idea to use it.This is a great little handheld console. I can’t give it five stars due to the messed up SD card, but assuming yours arrives working, you likely won’t be disappointed.

I wanted to love it
I LOVE this thing. I was playing Pokemon and it was so nostalgic and fun. The concept of it is great if youâre into retro games. I told alot of people and they went and ordered it for themselves or their kidsBut recently itâs been acting a little funky. I played with it and turned it off when I was done. I went to turn it on and it didnât turn on. I restarted it literally 5 times. I mean left it for over a minute before I restarted it again and it just stays on the âAnbernicâ screen. But eventually it turned on, I was super excited !So I played with it and was scared to turn it off but I did because the standby drains tf outta of the battery. So today I went to turn it on and it is not moving from the Anbernic screen. Iâm so sad I have to return this. It was fun while it lasted â¹ï¸â¹ï¸

Horrible is an understatement
First one died in 2 months, second one was doa out of the box. Stuck on the title screen. No amount of system resetting or troubleshooting coild get it started. Stay away from this piece of garbage!

This is a really cool hand held console!!!
This was a free product. However, I don’t have any incentive to be biased for against the product.I love the RG35XX Plus. It has a ton of games preinstalled, a good sized screen, durable build, good sound, and buttons that aren’t too squishy. The trigger buttons and the bumper buttons are in an awkward place for me, but I think that it just takes time to get used to them. Now, I do have complaints about how the firmware is handled. The download link for the firmware is a little fishy and there’s no direction on how to update the firmware. If you’re not tech savvy, then you’ll need to watch videos or get someone who is to help you. That being said, after I did the firmware update, all of the games were still there. All in all, the RG35XX would be a great gift to anyone of any age who enjoys playing video games.

Wouldn’t go past boot screen
The thing has great build quality but it wouldn’t do anything past the boot screen, was just stuck on the boot screen. It’s a very lengthy process and requires alot of computer knowledge to fix.

did not work… frozen screen
I ordered this item twice. I had to return it both times because it had the same issue: the OS was crashing.
