95% amazing!
This thing is most likely a better option than a NES original console, it seems to work better, yes the games fit a little tight but its not horrible. Theres a very slight color difference, on most games you will hardly be able to notice, and sounds arenât quite as crisp as the original. Overall though its hardly noticeable. For the price, build, output quality its a good deal that Iâd recommend. The controller is great too, I actually think its more comfortable than the original NES controllers, the angled corners are a better design than the originals. I recommend this Retron HD for everyone, except those oldschool purists that have a trained ear from playing these games as a kid, to me though the very small differences arenât worth discouraging people from buying this option.

Works like a charm
Works exactly as I had hoped, using HDMI to connect to an LCD TV. Do note that it can require quite some force to put the cartridge in, I don’t know if that was also the case for the original NES. I would recommend wiggling the cartridge left and right while pushing, then you will feel it sink slowly.

Hyperkin has a good thing going, but needs more work!
This is a pretty decent little console. I feel the bad reviews *might* be from those who clearly set very high expectations from this manufacturer. Which I can understand.Things I’ve noticed during some heavy testing:-Some audio comes out slightly altered (IE: Konami pause sound effect is softer than it normally sounds), but…so far…all of the music in the games I’ve played match the original sound w/o issue, which was my biggest worry.-For others that have pointed out the “pink” colors in some skin tones, yes I’ve seen that too. It seems any character asset that was originally an off-white/beige color now looks more pink. It’s not terrible for me, but it is noticeable and will bother those who do not have the tolerance for such a trade-off. Which, again, I understand.-Build quality for the console & controller are very good, though I did notice a very minor bit of lag when pressing the “A” button. Again, not horrible, but still noticeable. I tested the original NES controller to see if it the lag input occurred there, which it did. So, it’s something in the console registering the lag…it really could just be the fact that the console’s technical priority is making the sure games run in 720p HD. Thus, now 720p HD selling point becomes both a blessing & a curse. The NES games looked really nice, but damn that very slight “A” button lag.SIDE NOTE: For anybody who owns that 150-1 Gaming Cartridge, it’ll work just fine!-If you’re playing this on a huge HD TV (mine is 55″), definitely play this on 4:3 as 16:9 allows more real estate, but stretches things out too poorly for my eyes.-For those who complained about the difficulty on removing the cartridge, I didn’t initially have that issue. But, after trying about 6 games and inserting them a little more forcefully, that was when removing the cartridge was more challenging. So, please make sure you do not insert the cartridge too hard into the slot. The quality of those pins in the console are no joke. The harder you press the cartridge in, the more difficult it’ll be to remove it. The cartridge does not need to be pressed so forcefully for the console to recognize the game. I do hope that helps! This console is good, but it can be a lot better. Hyperkin really should work on fine-tuning the color palette transitions & audio more, plus the slight controller lag as I feel this console was a little rushed during development due to the NES Classic madness. Hyperkin was onto something really good here, especially for those who just cannot pay $200+ for other higher-end console builds. If Hyperkin creates an SNES version of this, they have their work cutout for them…

Nostalgic NES seekers – this is the system for you!
Just received my Hyperkin today and I have to report that it is worth every penny. Having missed the whole Nintendo Classic Mini fiasco, I bought this system as a reasonably priced replacement for it. I’m happy to report that it arrived in perfect condition, was very easy to hook up, and works like a charm. Only have four games for it – Popeye, Donkey Kong Classics, Burger Time, and Super Mario Bros. 3 – and found that all four so far work perfectly. One note though, I did clean the connections before I played them just to be on the safe side so I would recommend doing this. As a casual gamer who hasn’t played a NES game since probably the early 90’s and was looking to “relive the nostalgia”, this does the job. I didn’t notice any lag to the game play, and I know that some people have mentioned the color differences but I’d have to compare the two side by side to even notice them and they really don’t make much of a difference to me for what I want the system for.To all of you that missed the Nintendo Classic and are, like me, just looking to play the original NES games again, I can recommend this system. I can’t wait to get more games and play them again!

Its okay
Its okay literally just okay the controller that came with its was sweet the 1st few time it was used. Cord is 200ft long. Unlike most the cord is super short this has the length but it doesn’t work the direction pad stopped working shortly after having it. The start select buttons won’t work either. The second time putting a game in the red flaps broke and of course it fell into the console. It total junk honestly but if you get the upgraded controllers (wireless) and take the red flaps off it should have a enough life to play some old NES games every once in a while. The HDMI is nice to have as well. You absolutely cannot get the games out of the console and I don’t recomend leaving them in either.

The retro fun hasn’t stopped
It took a while to finally get a working unit, the first one had to be returned. But once I did oh boy! The retro fun hasn’t stopped! This little inexpensive unit is probably the best 40 dollars I’ve ever spent. The games look and play great on the Retron HD, so far I’ve played through Super Mario brothers 2 and 3,Robocop, Tmnt 2 and Jackie Chan action kung fu on it. There are times when the colors and sound are a little bit off, but it never really bothered me. And any issues with the colors being off seem to only happen on an HD television when I connect the system to an old crt television all the colors display correctly. The included controller is amazing also! Very comfortable and responsive an improvement over the originals in my opinion. If you have some old Nintendo carts laying around the Retron HD is a good and inexpensive way to play them again on a modern or old crt television.
