The best budget smartphone yet again.
Much love & respect for Motorola who’ve outdone themselves once again by giving us the best budget smartphone money can buy.Motorola’s Moto G series started and so far has been on the forefront of budget smartphone market which has now gotten so better & competitive that they’ve been dubbed “Flagship killers”.I can start to bog you down with all the techie jargon & technical specifications of this phone but it is unnecessary, leave those to the 5% nerds & geeks. It all bogs down to the overall day to day user experience the 95% typical phone users like me(and probably you) who just wants to get first and foremost, a clean software experience not filled with unnecessary OEM bloatware that I never use or need, nice & comfortable feel on the hand, reliable internet access, access to emails, access to social media(fb, Instagram, Whatsapp, tumblr…) , be able to listen/stream to my favorite radio stations & podcasts, get navigation information, weather updates, SMS(do people still use these??), Voice/VoIP/Video calls, the occasional selfie/group photo/random photo moments, listen/stream music from my playlists or favorite artists on Soundcloud/Spotify…. watch cat videos on youtube 😉 , organize my life and track important dates/events with calendar/notes, casual browsing or shopping on Amazon/ebay/bestbuy, play candy crush etc… Then this phone can do all that without a hiccup. No gimmicks, just pure day to day usability. And the best feature in my opinion from Motorola with all their devices apart from the very competitive pricing, is the guarantee for timely(maybe not so much after Lenovo took over from Google) software updates. I bought the Moto G 1st gen back in 2013 when it was running Jellybean, I was able to upgrade it through over the air(OTA) to KitKat & handed it down to my little sister who now has upgraded it to Lollipop without a hustle, just purely OTA updates from the good people at Motorola themselves. I have a Moto G 2nd gen from 2014 and this Moto G 3rd gen from 2015 & I believe all(or at least the 2nd & 3rd gen) Moto Gs will get the Marshmallow update(I heard soak tests are already underway in select European and South American Markets) ISN’T THAT AMAZING!!!!!!! Motorola made a promise & they’ve been able to keep their word, maybe not as smooth & timely as planned but still, they kept their promise and I respect & admire them for that. We usually know that other OEMs only update their flagships(non flagships are left to be forgotten) in a usually messy and painstakingly long wait. Except google’s own Nexus line of devices, It is unheard of in the android ecosystem(due to fragmentation) for OEMs to support 3year old devices through OS updates. Much Kudos to Motorola for changing that, other OEMs should follow Motorola’s example, there is nothing worse than buying a 600$+ flagship android device(let alone a non flagship) that will be a dinosaur in the next 8months just because the OEM didn’t provide an update of the latest Android OS version either because they see no financial value to doing so or they are struggling with the mostly unnecessary customization to the lousy skins they slap on stock android.VERDICT: If you want a phone that is RELIABLE, has GOOD PERFORMANCE, has a REASONABLE PRICE and will be able to KEEP UP(software updates) with the android ecosystem for the next 2 or 3 years(maybe more…) then look no further, this is the best companion for you. Otherwise if you want a 1000$ phone to match your 2000$ bracelet or if you want a phone to power your hadron particle collider in your secret lab down your basement or if you want a phone to photograph distant stars and solar systems in the sky at night or if you want a phone to record 5hour 4K videos of your cat purring or if you want a phone to play the latest version of GTA/FIFA/Fallout/World of Warcraft/Halo/Assassins Creed/Tomb Raider/… in 4K at 10000FPS or if you want a phone with battery life to last you through the imminent zombie apocalypse… sorry, this is NOT the phone for you, please look elsewhere( I know a friend of mine who is crew in the Enterprise NX-01, he’s been to places where they might have what you are looking for. He might be able to help…)

Great value, very good phone, nearly perfect!
This phone is a great value. I tried several phones (including much more expensive “flagship” phones). The Moto G 3rd gen really works much better for my needs. It is very good on virtually every level. It acts and feels like a much more expensive phone! For reference comparison with how you might use your phone, I use mine for calls, streaming audio and video, listening to recorded audio, informational apps, internet browsing, and some picture taking. I do not use it for heavy gaming or video taping so I cannot speak to its performance in those areas. The Moto G fits comfortably in my hand and even (somewhat tightly) in my pocket while still providing a large display. This is important and makes the phone fit flexibility into my life (carrying the phone at work or on walks/hikes is much easier than larger phones). The sound quality is excellent. Honestly, the sound quality is wonderful with deep tone and a wide volume range. My hearing is very sensitive and on many phones even the lowest volume is too loud for me when listening with headphones. That is not the case with this phone. Even at the low volume, the sound quality is rich. Without the headphones, the sound is still excellent and much better than other phones that tout their forward facing stereo speakers. The sound quality on calls is also very good. The phone doesn’t arrive with bloatware and the Android is virtually pure. In fact any limited additional software included is actually helpful Motorola tools.Having Android 6.0 is great since it allows me to turn off unneeded permissions on an app-by-app baiss. Prior to this, there were many apps that I simply did not download due to the unnecessary and intrusive permissions requested. The processor works seamlessly and the graphics and visuals are good. At its brightest the display is easy to read in sunlight. That is a definite plus but I do sometimes miss the deep blacks found in the Amoled displays of my earlier Motorola phones. Also on the plus side, the display icons and colors are not garish or cartoon-like as seems the case with many recent phones.Having an SD card is great. On my last phone I had to very grudgingly do without an SD so I’m very happy to have one again. There are only a few small things I would change. First, I would prefer a dedicated set of buttons for back/home/recent rather than having it layered in the existing display. It is a minor issue but sometimes a little bit annoying. Secondly, a bigger issue and the reason I considered returning it – the camera colors seem somewhat muted compared to what my eye sees (bright turquoise looks a bit greyer, rich multi-tonal wood looks less rich). Thirdly, I would have preferred it was open to all carriers – including Verizon. That is a feature of this year’s (4th generation) models but looking at the specs on those models, I decided this one was more likely to work for me due to its size, memory capabilities, and camera. In a perfect world, I would also wish this Moto G came with a replaceable battery and space for a dual sim. Unfortunately, those are tough features to come by in recent years and really not a big deal.Overall, this phone met most of what I was looking for – functionality, comfort, really good sound quality, reasonable price, smooth processing, SD slot, Android 6.0, solid construction – and had a much better combination of those features than other phones on the market. I would definitely recommend it. I would also recommend getting Amazon’s package of the 16GB Moto G plus the 32GB MicroSD. It is a great deal. One other note, I highly recommend buying your Moto G through Amazon rather than directly through Motorola. Yes, it is true that if you buy it directly from Motorola you have the option of customizing the look. However, having purchased and returned a Moto X Pure Edition* directly with Motorola, I would say that purchasing through Amazon is the way to go.*BTW, just a comparison about why I kept the Moto G and returned the Moto X Pure Edition. The X is more expensive, too large and – most importantly and annoyingly – when making calls, there was a constant background buzz. Despite the greater number of pixels with the Moto X, the picture quality wasn’t any better and in some situations was even worse.

negs: battery dies quicker than a new one from a box, has issues with reading my sim card and connecting it to the computerpost: price, speakers are louder than iPhone, good photosI don’t use data… only music, videos, and texts.

2 months in and its working great. i have not fully tested the water resistance but it has survived a number of backcountry ski trips and sitting beside a hot spring for a few hours. this phone seems fast enough for basic webbrowsing, watching netflix, etc. I do not use my phone for any gaming (because I do not play any online games).this phone (the 2gb of RAM version) came with full original packaging and a bonus backing plate.

I have had the motorola moto g 3rd gen for about 3 weeks now and i am happy with my purchase. I have a pay as you go plan with rogers, so i was not interested in getting an apple or samsung galaxy, for the extra cost. The phone came equipped with Android 6.0 , and 2 gb of ram. The moto g provides good reception for making and answering phone calls . I have free wi-fi at work , so i can easily check my emails on my phone and browse the web. The screen quality is very good for reading emails and text messages. If you are looking for a budget phone that is not expensive and you only need to make calls or text messages, than this is your phone.
