    More Room
This is the first time we have used an SFX-style power supply for one of our builds. It is 1000 watts and platinum-rated, so I don’t know what I expected. The build was going into a Thermaltake 300 case requiring a Mini or Macro motherboard. Please keep in mind that motherboards of those sizes are actually reversed in their nomenclature. The “Micro” is a more giant board than the “Mini.” It’s just another thing one needs help understanding about the computer world. The case would accommodate an entire SFX power supply, but I wanted our techs to have more room to maneuver while building. That theory worked out great. With the extra room, they could store the extra wires neatly. Also, you must realize that the motherboard is rotated with the 300 (and also the other from Thermaltake) tower-style cases. The socket area used for a standard build is on the left, which becomes the back of the computer. This socket area ends up on top of the case. This then puts all the cables in a different position, too. The 24-pin cable is on the bottom, only a couple of inches from the position of the power supply. You end up with about 6-8 inches of extra cable. As I said, now we have a larger area to fold and store the extra. This PSU also has programmable RGB, which can be done by simply plugging the cable into a standard ARGB socket on your motherboard. Unfortunately, you can’t see too much of the light show in this case. A great power supply that does its job and saves you a lot of room for your arranging.

I recently upgraded my system with the ASUS ROG Loki SFX-L 850W Platinum White Edition power supply, replacing my Corsair RM850, and the difference is remarkable. The first thing that stood out was its size – it’s about two-thirds smaller than a standard PSU, making it a perfect fit for compact builds without compromising on power. This power supply comes with an adapter plate, which was a handy addition, and the cables are impressively flexible. This flexibility made cable management a breeze, allowing for a clean, well-organized setup. The design complements my all-white Y60 build perfectly, adding to the aesthetic while delivering robust performance. The 80+ Platinum efficiency is a testament to its quality, ensuring optimal power usage and reduced heat generation. The 120mm fan keeps it running cool and quiet, a significant plus for any build. Additionally, the PCIe-5 connector worked seamlessly with my GeForce RTX 4080, providing stable and reliable power for high-end gaming. In summary, the ASUS ROG Loki SFX-L 850W Platinum White Edition is an exceptional power supply unit. Its compact size, high flexibility, and superb performance make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to build a sleek, powerful, and well-managed system. It’s a phenomenal piece of hardware that I would highly recommend.

Update: 850W is not sufficient for a 4090 build, no matter how many Reddit posts on the internet claim it’s fine. Give yourself some headroom – I returned this gorgeous piece unfortunately to get a 1000W instead.I did not expect this PSU to be as nice as it is – clear fan, copper elements and metal fan cover – it’s excellent and worth the splurge. Don’t make the same mistake I did, however – I didn’t realize an ATX PSU would look ridiculous in an E-ATX case. It did not occur to me that there were different sizes of PSUs. Next up: new case. lol
