    Excellent Laptop for the price
I have had this laptop for about 8 months now and I feel like I can give this a fair review: As others have said, the speed of this laptop is phenomenal. I wanted this level of ram and processor for my design work and medium gaming capabilities. I would not recommend this laptop for absolute heavy gamers because it does lag a bit with large games such as BG3. But if you are running sims with mods, it’ll work just fine and run everything smooth. The screen is also super crisp and bright which is just what I needed to see my art pieces in their prime.I would give this laptop a 4.5 star for some of the minor difficulties I’ve had with it. For one, the fingerprint unlock is awful. I would just opt for the PIN code, the fact this does not have Face ID on it as a feature, that is beyond me. I have not had the mouse troubles like others in reviews have stated, but after the first month of having it the speaker started to crackle, which has been a theme of mine with laptops so I’m not sure. I was able to get that fixed through a technician and haven’t had any troubles since, but something to look out for. I have also not had any troubles with Bluetooth which leads me to believe it might have just been a software issue that was cleared up with an update. At the end of the day, I don’t feel like it is fair to rate this 4 stars, with 5 being generous, but all the problems I stated above were minor to me and just notes of what I will want in the future. Now, I’m not a computer person. This is not my forte and I had to ask about the specs relevant to the price with people that actually build PCs and know VASTLY more than I do. But the conclusion was, it is definitely worth the price for the specs that you do get, with the exception that now it has a bit of an outdated graphics card in the world of technology (to my understanding).

    A swindling job?
It is no dispute that the laptop’s appearance-design impresses with sleekness and cutting-edge precision and hardiness, giving a sense of reassurance in long-lasting performance. Disagreeing however with another reviewer whose criticism was hurled at the port-arrangement and key-board layout of the chassis, which I found its presentation agreeable in width and functionality and further come to view the laptop as a potential contender for a faithful romance; to my credulity, if it were compared to a familiar context, the laptop would then play as the “It’s not you, it’s me” caricature, leaving you without much hope for any remediation that should lie in the future of the romance. Despite its attractive surface, its depth inversely conceals a hot-mess, its charging port location reportedly conflicts with near components obstructing power distribution throughout the system eventually leading to cases of static build-up. So to agree with those critical reviews that pinpointed the several internal, or otherwise inevitable, issues experienced, I had saw hints of each reported: the ghost popup or “burnt-in” image that suddenly appears on the screen unable to be clicked away, settings-related paranormal-like flickering, the miserably short lifespan of the powerbrick of the charger itself, and finally—the silver bullet in my case—an unexpected motherboard collapse, resulting in an infinite sleep-mode with no display. My local computer technician and I both observed and omitted physical-damage relation, soon arriving at the conclusion of a failed BIOS update that the software had attempted to run. Yet another reported and apparently recurring issue since the early development of Asus’s product line, that is, sneaky and notification-absent BIOS updates that may or may not cause hardware and bootup failure. It’s service-representatives, I must say, borderline abysmal in communication and connection, treating you as a second-rate customer, especially at times condescending in manner as if it were you whom has caused or even is the problem. Moreover, if you’re outside of the warranty or grace-period, you can forget about any extended hand on their part to compromise. If it adds to perspective, I should share that I had my laptop for only a little over a year.An undismissable feeling of robbery lingers notably in me since discovering Asus’s recent past scandals[research yourself] and seeing a steady stream of reported-issues appear throughout internet forums. Heed my critical review and give the laptop and company on the whole a pass—until Asus can redress the core philosophy and values that intially set in store its business ventures—it’s a good burden onto me so to now guide fellow consumers towards actually reputable company brands with commendable customer-services and whose laptop products ensure high-quality components and consistent performance such those as my local pc technician had recommended myself, Dell, Lenovo, and HP.

Wonderful! With a few wishes for next time
Pros:The screen is awesome. I really can make use of the extra 240 lines in height.Quiet – I put the fans on the low noise option and it’s wonderfulFast! Both computationally and moving stuff off of external SSD.Supports extending to external 4K monitor, and GPU’s work there.Cons:[These are really minor, but I wanted to put them here hoping that ASUS will read them, and for some it may be useful]1) I am right handed. My mouse lives on the right side of my laptop. I wish the power and HDMI cables, and high speed USB-C, could be on the left side, away from my right hand and mouse. See picture. But if you are left handed – this layout is a winner. [I’ve ordered a right angle HDMI cable to help]Update: I found a great video cable, look for Flexible HDMI to HDMI Cable Left Angled 90°, it made a big difference.2) The touch pad is a full inch below the space bar. For those of us who have trained on using the touchpad, we want to be able to use it with your thumb, while keeping our palms and fingers in typing position. On my previous laptop, it was only 3/8″. I’m still able to work the pad, so I’m not subtracting from the stars, but if you have smaller hands, you might want to check this, if you want to use it this way. Also — I think this is one of those things with the visual appeal took precedence over the user comfort. I really want the designers to consider this use case.

    Hmm…
Seems unstable. I’m not a computer guy. This isn’t about stats and stuff. I just want it to function better than my old cheap acer and it doesn’t. The mouse pad is horrendous; it takes 5 lbs of pressure for it to be touch sensitive. Programs randomly stop working (even shuts off randomly while using the web). Dunno. All that said, the screen is amazing and the computers saving grace.

    Linux compatibility, robust
Please note that the fan would intermittently run while idle while using Ubuntu. After switching to Debian in 2024 this issue is no longer an issue. Build is robust. I sold my custom desktop to downsize to this laptop and it has performed well. Can play vanilla Minecraft with decent graphics settings on it.
