This is basically a name brand controller, if not better.
Ok, so this is a day 1 review, but thats also part of it…TL;DR version: Well made, performs on par or better than “OEM” or name brand controllers; just buy it, 100% worth it. See pic with origional PS2 controller for size comparison1) Shipping: i ordered this yesterday Dec. 7th 2023. It arrived Dec.8th 2023. Thats amazing and automatically gave it 3 stars.2) Feel: This feels like a premium, “name brand” controller. The plastic casing feels sturdy and well made yet somehow retaining that good ol’ nostalgic feel of the old controlers/cases us late 80s earyl 90s kids remember very well. All the buttons feel amazing; d-pad, ABXY, start/select, Ls/Rs, even the joysticks are nice and crisp. Virtually no button rattle either which to me never matters as lokg as it performs perfect but i know some people HATE button rattle and i personally cant hear any. The size is perfect, at least for me and i have around medium sized hands. Feels right in the hands.3) Performance: So far im writting this review about 30min after delivery so i cant speak much there yet but i have tried it on my phone via bluetooth with some old PS1 games and theres virtually no detectable lag/latency between the controller and the game, you press the button the action happens. For comparison I recently modded my phat model PS2 to use a HDD and it has input lag, this seemingly doesnt from what i can tell. Havent used it anywhere else yet as i havemt setup anything else as i primarly wanted this to use with emulators. Cant yet speak on battery life but will update review after ive used it moreIf anythinf changes i will update my review as needed or after ive had the controller a little bit longer but initial impressions are so good im likely going to buy both the green version and OG version as well. If they made one in a clear blue id buy it day 1 without hesitation.

Great Computer/Nintendo Switch Controller
I bought this 8BitDo controller to use primarily on the computer, but I did see it also worked on the Nintendo Switch, which was a great addition for use. I picked the one that resembled the old SNS controller as that was easily a favorite controller of mine back in the 90’s. I have the original SNS wired controllers and used that for comparison, and to me all buttons seem to function very similarly, The plastic seems a bit different but not sure if it is better or worse, just different, I did mark on star off for material as I was not sure if it is good or bad. This controller feels the same in my hands as the original, so the feel and grip is about on par with the original SNS controller.I do not have a mac and no longer have an android device so I could not test it on those, so reviews of it working on those devices would need to be written by someone who has used it on those.Game Play:I used it on several Nintendo Switch games as well as some of the classic Namco games on the Switch all of which worked well with no controller lag. I used it for Minecraft on the Switch and the Windows 10 version and both worked exactly the same with no issues. I have also used it for playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the computer with flawless operation. If there is any lag due to it being a wireless controller, I did not notice one bit.Battery Life:The charge life is better than the charge life on my Switch Pro controller. I cannot say for certain the exact time difference, I just know that my son needed to charge the pro controller while I was continuing on with this one and both had come off a fresh charge just before use and both with the same amount of play time as well. I did not play straight through as I do not play games 24 hours straight, so it was over several days of testing so, even at rest there seemed to be minimal battery drain.Suggested Improvements:My main complaint is something I knew going in and that is it will not work on IOS devices, there is a possible change to the device that is basically a downgrade you could get on it to make it work but why would I want to downgrade this if it works great on all other platforms I have tried it on. So my suggested improvement would be a new update that would not be a downgrade but instead would be an upgrade to have it work on IOS devices. There are so many games that I would love to use this on that I have on IOS. I do not want to by a controller that is specific to those devices when I have this controller that I would love to use on them.Overall:Overall the controller was better than I expected. I had heard of 8BitDo for some time now, but I figured it was all hype and that the end product would be very cheap, but it does not feel that way at all. This feels like a mainstream product that even has the coloring right to the original SNS controllers. Some people might not like the ergonomics of the controller, but if you do like that nostalgic feel of an SNS controller while playing newer games, this controller will not let you down.

Perfect!
I love this controller! 8Bitdo nailed the design on this – compact and stylish but still packing every standard modern controller amenity if needed. The D-pad, joysticks, and buttons all feel great. The body is lightweight but solid. It’s perfect for all sorts of retro, emulator, casual, and mobile games. If you truly need every single button for a modern, control-heavy game then this form factor is going to feel cramped. But that’s not the intended use case here – get a full-size controller for that. These aren’t cheap controllers compared to other offerings out there, but they’re so much nicer. I’ve bought two so far for the emulation system I’m setting up and I’ll probably buy two more for a complete, consistent set.Update: I’ve since bought several more of these for my emulators and have been using them regularly for the last year or so now. They’re still fantastic. However, there’s persistent criticism of these SN30’s in the retrogaming community about “ghost inputs” on the D-Pad (usually unintended diagonals). There have even been well-publicized hardware hacks involving taping off internals. I’ve tested this thoroughly and I just don’t see any evidence of a problem at all. Maybe I’m just lucky? Or more likely, maybe there have been manufacturing improvements over the years and those reports are based on older samples. All five of the SN30’s I own work identically and perfectly. These are fantastic controllers.
