I like it.
The first thing that I did after loading all of the updates was to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro. Plus I installed Office Pro Plus 2021 before loading my games to this beast. So, far I am close to just 1 TB of free space. Otherwise, I am really liking this laptop with all the bells and whistles.

This is powerful but has issues
I was really excited to get this home as a replacement for the HP Envy 17.3 that I’ve had since 2017. It worked great but the Win 10 OS sadly is being retired without the ability to upgrade to Win 11. When I received this new laptop I spent a couple days updating all of the components that required it. Then, I installed some of the apps that I use regularly. I was impressed with the response and how quick the processor worked, so that part I’m happy with. My problem is 1st the installed USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam camera doesn’t have IR capabilities. You would think that an expensive (for me) computer like this one would have included a usable camera, Especially for a Windows system. I used the Hello Face app daily with my older computer. It’s a real handy tool when you finding your self logging into many different sites and apps. Now as a workaround I have to order a separate camera to attach to this new laptop in order to prevent the frustration of not being able to use the built-in camera. My 2nd issue with this laptop and or system is it’s lack of ability to connect to my LG Smart TV. I have tried several ways with different methods using share screen and Mira Screen to no avail. I never had any issue with my HP Envy 17.3 Laptop. I tried with direct intranet cable connections to both the Asus and my TV using the same router of course. I also tried using WIFI only 2.4 and 5 Ghz bandwidths and all to no avail. Yes, I rebooted and unplugged each device including the router several times as I changed procedures when troubleshooting the problem of not connecting.3rd – Even using several different HDMI cables seemed to be challenging. A couple would work some times and not others. I ended up just throwing several away, to be on the safe side. I also ordered a new HDMI DP 2.1 Cable which supports high resolutions like 16K, just in case the HDMI cables that I were using was the issue. Even my older HDMI cables were rated at 4K resolution but not sure what the Ghz speed rating was for them. I had spent quite a few hours trying to resolve the casting problem and have yet to do so. If somebody reads this review and knows fix please reply so that we can connect. I do like the computer so far except for what I have posted, That said this is still a very new toy. 🙂 Note: I am not a gamer and only purchased this laptop to do my daily routine work. However, I mostly wanted it for streaming since the Display Resolution, Video Output and the 240Hz refresh rate are so high. It’s really a shame that I have spent so much of my money to go though these issues and to spend even more money trying to find a work around…Update: I was able to find a fix for the Miracast issues that I was experiencing. Apparently there was another update that my computer didn’t detect until I did some further diagnostics on my system. After installing the latest Nvidia display 32.0 15.6607 update I have been able to cast to my TV. Yea!! That said, the casting appears to be choppy and has pixelation in the screen image. I’m still looking for a fix to take care of those issues. :(Update #2: I have experienced the ASUS ROG Strix G17 G713 screen lockup a couple times now. I was watching a video and it paused for a few minutes while taking care of business, when I came back the screen was black and locked-up. The only way to reactivate the screen was to do a hard-boot of the system. This is not supposed to happen in my opinion. Maybe a setting can be changed to take care of this issue but I don’t know at this time. New buyers should be aware of this, because it has happened to me a couple times.

For your information
I registered this laptop at Asus the day after receiving it. Then I was shocked to see “Warranty Expired” in my product registration. My laptop was an October 2023 brand new model (not refurbished). This is the only reason for 4 stars. So far I am very impressed with how well it works, can even play Starfield on it. Another “Heads Up”, if you are upgrading from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro a clean install after buying the Pro license will not work, it always chooses Home edition. So I did a clean install then in Windows System did the upgrade and entered my to activation code and it worked just fine. I did download all the required drivers ahead of time and good thing because it did not recognize my WiFi. In hind site I would have just saved myself a lot of time by purchasing the license then upgrading without the clean install because there really isn’t a lot of bloatware like other laptops/pre-built computers to get rid of.

Great laptop
Laptop has a lot of power and can run games very smoothly. Love the RGB aesthetics of it. Not a game that I can’t play so far.

Asus rog brick g17
They did a mandatory bios update in 2024. Bricked a lot of computers, mine included.I’ve already voided my warranty. Legally if my actions didn’t cause the problem, the warranty should cover it. Do you think Asus honors that?last Asus.

Where’s the sound
My husband bought me this as a present. I do love the laptop it self but I try to steam or play music and don’t have much volume. Even with all settings on high. That said this laptop has taken all that I have thrown at it.
