UPDATE! Excellent as a PLEX Server
I have been running a Plex Server, with connected shares from a NAS for several years on an old PC I used to use for gaming but more recently, the PC has been having issues so it was time to find a new solution. I knew that Gen 7 (and above) Intel processors are excellent for transcoding and so I started looking. I wanted at least 16gb of ram, an i3 Gen 7 (or newer) processor, minimum 256gb of disk, and I wanted it to run Windows 11 Pro. The Beelink SEI8 Mini PC checks all the boxes for me!I have the Plex server all setup now and have been testing streaming with no issues. I really like how the PC came with hardware to mount it to a couple of the Vesa threads on my monitor so now the PC is out of the way. The fan is very quiet and where I have it, I really can’t hear it. I have been monitoring the temps and they do get a bit warm, up to 70c but the intel i5 has a top operating temp of 105c so no issues there. I am also glad to be able to shutdown the old PC which, in the end, will save power as well as reduce the noise where I had it sitting as the fans on the old PC were not too load but there was a bit of ‘white’ noise generated by that PC running all the time.Once I setup the OS, I then loaded my Antivirus, of which I use Sophos Home. The scan detected two problematic cookies which Sophos took care of with no issues. The Windows install is clean and straight forward with no bloatware.As of this write-up I highly recommend this little MiniPC. For my use, it is working out perfectly!UPDATE:I have been running this PC as a dedicated Plex server for several months now with absolutely no issues! I have had up to four streams going at the same time and everything works well! I still highly recommend this MiniPC!

Two years in and all is good
This is an update and below it’s my original review. After 2 years the unit had ran perfectly. Because I’m hyper about cooling i always made sure there was additional cooling.I may buy a 2nd.*** original review ***unit is a great value… Feels solid. Very fast… A better mount would be great. I am not a super fan of these size units because I worry about cooling but my application is space sensitive.The office I am running it in is 58′ and the unit is blowing 97′ air. According to what I have read the processor has a 212’f max operating temp so I’ll assume that this 30′ difference is probably not too bad. I am letting it run overnight to burn it in with a screen saver running. I’ll measure it in the AM to see what has changed.The fan is not running fast so I know it has some additional ability to move air. The room will get colder so it is not a super test. I have three other older and larger NUCs which I drilled a lot of holes in the case and added cooling in the cabinet. If anything changes overnight I’ll add to my review.

Loads Windows in 7 seconds
This will be my last computer so I wanted it fast; simple; and easy to upgrade RAM & Storage. Boots up in 7 seconds runs about 80% the way I want. Cursor goes away several times a day. Will NOT let me install my Canon Printer. SSD cable broke but Factory sent me a new one – gold star for that ! Runs my WiFi cable very well.

Size isn’t everything.
Don’t let the tiny size of this fool you. This little computer packs a lot into a small package. I primarily use this as a graphics and video editing computer and do some light gaming on it (Steam) which it handles with no problem. It has plenty of ports including two for dual monitors which run without a hitch. I did expand one of the USB ports so I could add a few more peripherals including an external drive but overall it has everything most people would need right out of the box. And with a SSD internally, it blazes compared to my old laptop. If you don’t need mobility with a laptop, this is a great little computer and with a small footprint, it cleans up your workspace nicely. The biggest problem I had was organizing and hiding the cords. I like it well enough, I upgraded my wife’s desktop to one of these.I haven’t had to use tech support, but from what others have reported, I hear that they are good.
