It does everything that I need.
People don’t understand, that variations of e-ink, or no light from the machine needed have been around for fifteen years. Since, the first version of Android, and they played video, and were in color.I would sunbath, and watch YouTube, read the news, all in direct sunlight.Someone bought the market, and the huge amount of competition vanished. With only e-ink left.Take that how you want. But, the those devices were fully capable, and the colors were fantastic, and they played video. This is what we have now.Pick a device with Android, to use any application you want. But, understand that not all applications operate in the same way as a “normal” device. However, Onyx offers a lot of options to get the best out any application. They could just put the best computer chips in them, and a graphics chip, and then there would be zero problems, “sort of”. But, from all companies, now. It’s happening, though slowly.I tried the the Note Air 3c, and it was not good enough for me. Plus it had some “bad pixels”. I don’t care what any company says. I ain’t putting up with a “normal” amount of “bad pixels”. Might as well get a subscription for heated seats that are already in my car.As, I mentioned everything works fine, and I always use it in the fastest mode. Because, I can’t notice a difference in quality, big enough to matter for me. But, the nicer the quality, the slower things move, “sort of”. People, may not understand that, and expect nearly the same experience as their regular iPad or Android Tablet. The highest quality works fine, and there is a difference in quality, mainly with photographs. The device should work fine, with just the basic choices for operation. But, there are some fine tuning options and if you are “new”, or not, it takes some learning. But, it’s worth it.The one application that i needed this for, was Neuro Nation, an advanced brain training exercise “game”.For the first few days, even after all of the updates, the application would work, and allow you to log-in, to keep track of your progress. But, the next time, I would open the application, it would start me, back at the beginning and ask me to log-in again.I tried as much as I could to fix it. But, just kept checking on it. Like, maybe it would all of a sudden work, and it did. Ha ha.I decided to keep it anyways, because, this version, the Air 4c, does enough of the things, that I need. There is an option to report problems, like this one. I don’t know how well it works. I have not tried it.After a few days, the application did keep me logged-in, and everything works perfectly. Super happy about that. The sound is good enough, and loud enough. At first, I had to double tap a button here and there, and there would be some lag every now and again. But, those things improved after the updates. Some devices can be seen more easily with no light from the machine. But, some are not in color, or they do not have Android, where you can download any application that you want.I just wish anyone sold a normal foam, kid-proof, regular heavy-duty, or light, case with no cover. The closest one, is a clear one, that is just basic. Like, you just wouldn’t want to drop your device in it. $10 for that one.I may get that one, and get the $60 three year accidental damage protection, through Amazon. But, the accidental damage protection, is not the one that shows up, when they offer you, an option to buy insurance. It is only for warranty type stuff. They are about the same price. Just search the internet, and then follow the link back to Amazon, if you want that.I am very happy with this version, the Air 4c.I use it to read the news on Twitter, and it works perfectly.Sometimes, something on the screen will not show. But, is there. Like, on the Google Play Store, the icon for your profile is missing. But, if you push that area, it is there. Also, there are a lot of options to get the best experience.Don’t give up, and study about it.It may be frustrating. But, if you get a device without Android, you will have no ability to install your favorite application. Most, applications are not optimized for e-ink. So, don’t give up, and get the best experience you can.It has nothing to with this company. The “out of the box” optimization of an application to use on an e-ink device, is the responsibility of the developers and mainly Google, who “owns” Android.Update: The Text to speech application that I use is called, Acapela TTS Voices, and the application that receives the article is called @Voice Aloud Reader (TTS).After setting up which voice you like, you just push the share button, on a webpage for example, that you would like to have read.@Voice Aloud Reader (TTS), receives the article and organizes it neatly, with highlighting the text being read, as one example of the many features.I already submitted the video review. But, may post additional photographs to show how nice and easy it is.

    Exceeded expectations as an ereader
I’ve been a user of E-ink since the first Kindle and started going outside of Amazon almost 2 years ago. I already own the Remarkable Paper Pro and Supernote Nomad for a digital notebooks and knew this product was lacking in that department due to my extensive research. So I was not surprised to see that the writing is pretty terrible in comparison. I would definitely not recommend this device as a primary notetaker unless you can’t afford multiple devices and need a jack-of-all trades device. I tried the pen that came with it (feels like a dry marker and sounds like one on the screen too), I tried the same pen with a kindle scribe nib, and the Lamy Alstar pen with the pom nib. They all feel pretty bad to me having already gotten use to other devices for writing. With all that said, I bought this as an ereader, something to read books and graphic Novels/comics on with some light annotating. In that regard its wonderful, the color is better than expected, I don’t need the frontlight on as high as I thought (it does need to be on though unless you’ve got a lot of light. Page flips are fast, images look great on my covers and comics. It comes with around 34ish gb of storage free but I put a micro sd card in. The native reader app Neoreader is fantastic and supports many formats. I put my comics on as PDF through Calibre (calibre recognizes the device automatically) and transfered my books as epub. I put the Kindle app for Kindle Unlimited and Marvel Unlimited app. All work perfectly. If you want to use the browser it works best with the pen. The device itself is well built and solid. the edges are rounded which honestly I dont get because the pen fits awkwardly on it and the device is too cold and slippery to use without a case of some sort. I bought a third party case, the official case has no charging port cutout. In summary, I love the device, the pen is trash unless it’s just because of the screen film they use for the “paperlike” feel.Edit: I switched my nib to the scribe one. Feels nearly the same but without as much dry marker feel and sound. Notes app has crashed 3 times for me in a 30 minutes window after trying to use undo. Also the battery is decent but ONLY if all you do is read text with airplane mode (no WiFi or Bluetooth) and as low light as possible. Using dark mode at night helps for me because I can use the light lower and still see text. Doing literally anything else on this device drains battery fast.

Does not integrate with Microsoft 365/Office 365
I bought this to use with Microsoft Office using my companies mobile app mgmt restrictions. I figured that since its android and can run Company Portal and Office, I could use OneNote as my writing app. Unfortunately, it does not work consistently and requires constant remove and add of the apps. Then it works for a day. My team is the one who sets up the Microsoft restrictions, and have been doing this for years, so we have a lot of practical experience with IOS and Android devices. Nothing else in our inventory has the errors we encounter with this. If we solve this, I will post an update. Until then, I cannot recommend this device as is. I went back to my Remarkable2 which for me is more usable as a writing device. The Remarkable2 is much better at what it does as a single purpose device. If you want something with more versatility, then BOOX may be a better fit for you than it was for me.

    This ticks all the boxes!
Wow! What a revolutionary product. I am using it to modernize my note taking for charting in my nutrition practice and having tried with other products, this one is up to the task. The ability to use kindle and kobo for reading comics is a huge win as well. It is a great e-book, note taking device that does take some setup and learning to get it right for your particular use case, but that it can be customized and has flexibility makes it shine. There is a learning curve, but learn it and let your productivity shine. The pros are, form factor, great color, durability, and a remarkable reading experience without any monthly subscriptions which brings great value for money. Pro tip (set up the gesture to swipe and refresh to clear any ghosting)
