    Great, innovative product
I work as an Ergonomist and was very intrigued by this product when I first saw it. In the past the only option for a true sit-stand workstation has been to purchase an adjustable desk. That tend to be an expensive proposition as the ones with motors to change the elevation of the work platform are expensive. The manual ones are not as expensive but require tedious manual cranking. This workstation is an excellent alternative. As a matter of fact it might be the only alternative in work places where employers won’t allow a complete changeout of a desk–this unit fits on your existing desk or work platform. Here are the high points.Pros:1) the unit is easy to assemble, all parts arrived and were designed so they fit perfectly2) the unit is sturdy. It rocks slightly during heavy use but that should be expected. It is, of course, an attachment and should not be expected to be as rigid as a standard desk or wall mounted unit3) The product is minimally intrusive. It clamps to the front part of the worksurface and has a cushioned rest that accepts most of the weight. I doubt it will produce damage.4) it appears to be adjustable enough to accommodate at least 80 percent of the population. I am not sure about how the default set up will fit extremely short or tall people but plan to check that out5) elevation is quick and doesn’t require much effort. The unit is balanced by a tension mechanism that was set properly for the weight of my two monitors and the optional Ergotron Worksurface. Raising/lowering is accomplished by pushing or pulling with one hand6) the brackets are designed to fit standard Vesa connectors. I have two monitors that are over 12 years old and they both fit without any modification7) tools for standard set up are included. The two wrenches provided are much better quality than other OEM tools provided for assembly. They were so good I didn’t even consider retrieving mine. You may need a cordless drill to adjust the tension mechanism8) The keyboard/mouse tray accommodates a full sized keyboard. They slope downwardly that places hands in a less stress posture, but may take a little getting used to for some (also see #3 below)Cons:1) Although the design of the monitor connector provides stable attachment, they are not adjustable. Some form of swivel would allow adjusting the viewing angle of the monitor2) Two separate sets of attachment points (holes for screws) allow attachment of the monitor arm. If you attach that arm to the lower set, you will probably not be able attach the optional ErgoTron worksurface–the lower edge of both of my monitors obstructed that attachment.* Unfortunately ErgoTron put a space between the two clusters of attachment points (four higher, four lower. If Ergotron had provided only six attachment points so that the middle two would be common for either attaching the arm higher or slightly lower, it might have been more compatible with the Worksurface. As I said before, I do not think the lower set as presently designed is very functional for most monitors.3) The slope of the mouse tray encourages the mouse to roll off, particular if you use even a thin optical pad below the mouse. I placed bumper at the lower end of the tray to prevent that. It would be nice if ErgoTron provided an optional bumper (I doubt they would want to extend the plastic rim higher because it would prevent the tray from being pushed inside the keyboard tray.*As I stated before, attaching the monitor arm to the upper set of attachment points will probably be compatible with about 80% of the population and allow use of the optional Worksurface.Conclusion.This is a very nicely designed and cheaper alternative to a sit-stand workstation that fits on an existing worksurface. It will help relieve individuals from some of the stresses associated with prolonged static postures that irritate some musculoskeletal conditions of the spine and vascular conditions aggravated by compression on the back of the thighs. I recommend it highly. (This is the ErgoTron Worksurface I purchased: Ergotron Worksurface for WorkFit-S (97-581-019))

    Unit Broken
The unit like others had the pulley system broken outside of warranty period and company has no way to fix without buying a new unit. Do some research and you will find this is common for ergotron so I’d go elsewhere. There is also a YouTube video on how to fix for others in the same situation. I’d go with a different option now that I know these are destined to fail without any option to repair from the manufacturer.

Becomes scrap metal after 5 years
Let me preface this review by saying that the Ergotron WorkFit-S is the best combination of ergonomics and affordability that I’ve found. The ergonomic options I’ve considered:Hand-cranked standing desk: operating the crank takes way too longMotorized standing desk: generally too priceyDesk conversion kit: every single one of these seems to have the keyboard on top of the desk when in the sitting position, which is too high for the majority of desksThe WorkFit-S is the perfect solution to my situation. It’s half the cost of some motorized standing desks, takes less than a second to move up and down, and allows me to keep my existing 30″ tall desk yet have the monitors and keyboard at the right height in both the sitting and standing positions.Unfortunately, build quality seems to be an issue. I’ve owned two WorkFit-S units (one at work and one at home), and both broke a few months after the 5-year warranty period when the internal gas spring/cable in the lift mechanism snapped, rendering the unit inoperable. Based on other reviews, Ergotron support is fantastic when the breakage occurs within the warranty period. But both times for me, support basically told me I was out of luck and there was no repair kit available, and that my only option was to purchase a new unit at the retail price. While technically there’s nothing wrong or uncommon (sadly) with this response, it does show that Ergotron is unwilling to provide any kind of support past the stated warranty period.Looking at other reviews, it seems like the lift mechanism breaking is not an uncommon event. And based on when I acquired my units, the second unit should’ve been the “improved” model that is less prone to breakage (other reviewers report being informed of this redesigned model by Ergotron support). So maybe I’ve just been unlucky, but now I’m 2 for 2 on a WorkFit that’s turned to scrap metal after the warranty period, and the idea of paying $500 (including tax) for a replacement that might last only another 5 years doesn’t sit well with me.So, buyer beware.

Great product, works well and is a must if you spend a lot of time at your desk. Ease to set up and to lift and lower.

I bought this monitor stand many years ago, and I still recommend it to people. While I wish the keyboard tray was wider, I think the monitor stand is one of my best purchases ever.

One of my colleagues purchased an Ergotron unit last year and has been singing its praises ever since. The quality of construction of his unit convinced me that it was worth purchasing one for myself. A previous employer had provided everyone with desks that raised and lowered the entire work surface so I had previous experience of the benefits of working in a standing position. The high cost of these desks has stopped me from getting one. This is a cost-effective solution which is easily the best piece of office equipment I have ever purchased.Assembly was very easy. Two allen keys are included in the package of materials you get in the box and you can complete almost all of the assembly just with these. You will need a phillips-head screwdriver and a 14mm socket wrench to fully complete the installation and adjustment. I like the fact that you get both thumbscrews and phillips-head screws for attaching the monitors to the brackets which slide onto the vertical arm. It makes disassembly a lot less cumbersome should you have to move desks. I managed to put the entire unit together and have both monitors attached in under an hour. The trickiest bit was removing the feet from my monitors which required figuring out where the manufacturers had decided to hide the screws attaching them.Adjusting the tension of the riser spring was the work of a couple of minutes. My colleague recommended I keep the wrench handy as the spring does vary in tension in the first couple of months. This is to be expected and in the case of his unit there is no further adjustment needed. I have a 22″ and 20″ monitor attached and I think this unit could even handle two 24″ units as long as they were lightweight with thin bezels. The benefits of working while standing are becoming clear to me after just a couple of days. I find myself doing lots of little stretches while I am on my feet, rolling on the balls of my feet and generally being a lot more active than when I was sitting in a desk chair. I’m feeling some sore muscles in my back from the unexpected use, which I think is a good sign! My lower back discomfort is already starting to become less as the muscles have less idle time in which to stiffen up. A side-benefit is that meetings at my desk with more than one person have become a lot easier because I don’t need seats for everyone and items displayed on my monitors are readily visible. A notable efficiency improvement! The only thing which I do not like about this version of the WorkFit is the keyboard/mouse tray. This is a very small, plastic shelf into which the mouse tray retracts about half-way. It feels flimsy and cheap unlike the rest of the unit. It is also not big enough for a standard-width keyboard and provides very little space for mouse use. I have ended up ordering the larger, more substantial keyboard shelf which at the time of writing costs just over $50.Some reviewers have commented on how the monitors wobble when they are working in the standing configuration. This happens to me as well but I know it is because I hammer my keyboard when typing. In the long run I’ll learn to have a lighter touch when typing, which is possibly healthier for the tendons in my hands anyway, and this issue will go away. It doesn’t bother me that my anyway.Other recommended purchases are:- Anti-fatigue mat for reducing the strain brought on by prolonged periods of standing. Not entire necessary but very welcome once you start using it.- Extensions for your monitor power cables (or a power-bar you can put on your desk surface)- Extensions for your keyboard and mouse USB cables

Installed on an existing work desk without any problem. Using it to mount 2 monitors. Height adjustable and works perfectly. Now I can work even standing with an old desk. Amazing!
