Sturdy, easily and quickly adjustable
I’m very pleased with this adjustable workstation after using it for a full week now. I chose the “HD” (heavy duty?) version over the (LD/light duty?) one because it supports more weight (i.e the weight of me writing on the work surface, the weight of books, coffee mug, etc). And it is very sturdy! However, my monitor isn’t heavy enough to give me the full range of monitor movement that this thing is built to allow (I think about 4.8″ or so) – I can only adjust it down about 1 inch before it springs back up – and I have adjusted it down to the lowest tension point (for the least amount of weight). But this is not a problem. I completely disagree with another review that says you need to be at least 5’6″ with a tall torso….I’m 5’5″ and this adjusts perfectly to my height whether I’m standing or sitting. The instructions are completely pictoral and lack any text/copy to explain how to put it together – at times this was challenging. Overall, assembly is straight forward and not difficult but adjusting the three tension points can be time-consuming. All told I spent about 2 hours assembling and about 1/2 hour to adjust the tension points. But I did not have any power tools with me at the office which would have sped up the process. I am skeptical of some of the negative reviews because I think they either didn’t assemble it properly or didn’t adjust the 3 tension points enough to allow it to work for them. It works as promised. I recommend it.

Great workstation! Very happy with purchase.
Update: so Iâve had this now 5 years & still happy with my purchase. I can feel it in my lower back when Iâm not standing as often. I bought the dual monitor adapter about a year in I think & it works great, even with the added weight.
I purchased this after thinking about it for a few months and looking for other options. I’m so happy that I finally bought this. I liked this model because it has the work surface and that comes in really handy for paperwork. It’s easy to slide up and down, & it stays in place. I type alot & find that its comfortable to type standing.
I suffer from lower back pain & feel so much better when I’m able to stand. I purchased mine after a co-worker purchased one and she is also very happy with it. We work in a high traffic area & find this was the best option for us. Now I probably stand more than half my day. I’ve had it for 2 weeks, I’ll update my review again in a few months.
Its easy to build, you only need help mounting the monitor. But that was easy enough for 2 people.
What stopped me from buying this sooner is that I thought it was too expensive… but the way I see it I’m investing in my health. They keep saying how unhealthy it is to sit all day. I truly feel its worth the money & highly recommend it to all my friends/coworkers.

So far so good
I had a makeshift standing desks before getting this one. Like you, I used about 4 reams of paper and had a slide out extendable keyboard tray. However this is the real deal. Well built. Easy to assemble. Smooth range of motion. I’m 6’2 and so I stretch the upper limit of the height range. When it’s fully extended I lose the top 2 inches of extension. I haven’t adjusted the tension yet though. Of course if I adjust it too much then I’ll have issues with it staying put when sitting.
My monitor is also probably right at the limit of weight range too. The slide mount for that also tends to slide Down a few inches. I just pushed a little plastic box under the monitor so it sits on the shelf and stays up all the way and it stays fine. However I would guess that anyone with a decent size monitor will be in the same boat. Not a deal breaker.
It’s not as wobbly as I read in other reviews. I was gonna buy the other version that’s on the swing arm but I decided against it to cut down on any wobble factor. And since I extend mine all the way up, I can actually push m chair all he way under the tray so much that it is sort of wedged under the tray for added support.
I the keyboard tray is nice and wide but if you want decent space for your mouse, your keyboard will be off center from the monitor by about 6 inches. You can offset the tray to compensate but I’m in a corner and so I have to keep it centered on the post. Sounds minor but it’s enough that it’ll take a little bit to get used to.
You do end up with a big empty space behind the post once you’re up and running but it’s a minor inconvenience. I used to put my computer tower on the floor to save desk space but I moved it up to behind the post since there’s room now. I ended up needing to do it anyway because some of my cords weren’t long enough to reach from the floor to the monitor when the desk was fully raised.
So far I’m very happy and I don’t foresee any issues.

Detensioning inoperative
“I guess you need to buy a heavier monitor” was the hotline rep’s final suggestion after monitor mount was fully detensioned and still wouldn’t remain in a low enough position. Cutting two 1/8″ x 5″ shims and jamming them into the slide was what made it work.

Solid engineering with high quality durable materials and elegant design. You may find yourself sitting farther back from your desk than you expected in the lowered position, and the assembly instructions could be updated and made more clear, but other than that this product has well exceeded my expectations.

Excellent quality. Smooth operation. Good assembly instructions.

Works well this one was missing screws for work table. Heavy duty, seems to be well built. Pricey but what is not when a specialty item.

This is my second Ergotron, the first one was with two monitor and I had no issues. This one had been nothing but headache. The monitor tilts up and I can’t see to adjust the setting to make it stay vertical. I had to resort to duct tape. The monitor height adjusting mechanism just keeps shooting the monitor up and the tension adjustment thingie does not work. I am simply disappointed and I wish I don’t recommend this product. Again the one with two monitors was way better.
