A Good Balance between Power and Efficiency
This is not the top of the line Ivy Bridge processor but close.Pros:- Super fast CPUs: 4 cores 8 hyperthreads latest Intel Ivy Bridge processor- Energy efficient: 65W at 3.1GHz max power- Quiet: the stock heatsink and CPU fan keep the processior at reasonable temperature without sounding like a wind tunnel- Integrated graphics (Intel® HD Graphics 4000) is powerful and energy efficient. No external graphics card needed for regular uses.I keep my PC on 24/7 and do photo processing and HD video playing. My previous PC used a dual-core 2.5GHz AMD Athlon processor. It takes hours to process hundreds of raw photos and overheats easily (alarm goes off followed by automatic shutdown). This new Intel i7-3770S processor can do the same job in 20 minutes while keeping the temperature at bay. CPU monitor shows all 8 CPUs spinning at maximum speed. The other good thing is I can do away with an external graphics card. The processor is capable of driving a 2560×1600 monitor and play 1080i HD video at 30 fps real-time speed with lots of CPU cycles to spare for other things.

Lot of kick for not much heat
3.1GHz…and 3.9GHz under turbo. I have two other systems with 2700K processors (and sadly, system boards that won’t allow OverClocking (didn’t know that when I got the parts together) – and this processor can do everything those 2700K processors can do (which is short of everything…FAST…with resources to spare), with a few additional things that the K processor eliminates (mostly the upper-end virtualization items) – the only thing the K could do is OverClock.I stuck this in a Shuttle XH61V = result is a very tiny system with a ton of kick.

3770S not a drop in replacement for 2600S…
While it physically fits (i.e., same packaging), the 3770S may not be a drop in replacement for 2600S in some systems. I found out the hard way. Check your BIOS and processor support information carefully before upgrading to this CPU.

Perfectly working part at a good price
Bought a I7-3770s for an old Z77 based NAS system. The extra processing capacity and lower power are perfect for a small TrueNAS setup.

This CPU has almost made me forget the C2Q Q6600 ever existed. Almost.
Before I built my rig with this CPU three years ago, I thought I would never grow more fond of a processor than the Core 2 Quad Q6600 I was upgrading from at the time. Although I will always be fond of that chip, the i7-3770S is miles better and does more than I was ever able to do with the Q6600.I usually run a lot of programs at a time–some CPU-heavy, some not. I’ll often be rendering video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 at the same time I’m running 2-3 VM’s, iTunes, Chrome with 10-15 tabs, Outlook, all the background processes Windows demands, and usually a couple RDP sessions. Task Manager says the processor is maxed-out just with Premiere rendering by itself, but there is no slowdown whatsoever. I can still have all I mentioned running and not feel a slowdown. There have been times where I had more programs running than I’ve listed here, and the i7-3770S still somehow manages to make itself as responsive as if the CPU were idling. In my mind, that makes this chip phenomenal.Like anyone who likes to stay ahead of the curve technology-wise, I’ve given some thought to upgrading, but that’s all. Just thought. The i7-3770S still does what I ask it to do every day, and I’m not letting it go until it absolutely struggles to do the most basic of tasks. I think I have a few years before I get to that point.

Question if really worth the extra money?
I find it to do what it said it would. But it runs very hot which is disturbing. Much of what I could find out is Intel’s new method of not soldering the heat shield but instead uses cheap thermal compound is the cause. I guess everybody is out to save a buck. Too bad in this case. Can’t add more cooling as I installed it in an AIO and there is no room. Also, I got this one because of the lower watt usage which is supposed to make it run cooler. I didn’t find that to be true. Running hot shortens the life of the product which is expensive to begin with. Should have checked out one of the higher running i5’s which give about the same performance but run less hot.Because of the heat issue I only gave this a four star rating.

Fixed up an old Mac that was pinwheeling
Used it with some extra RAM and a solid state drive to stop the pinwheeling on a late 2012 era Macintosh. Now it runs like a new computer. Very much worth the investment.

Works Great For A Small Reduction In Performance
I have been doing my final upgrades to my 12 year old i5-2500 system and the CPU is the last. The i7-3770 is the highest that will fit my Motherboard socket. The price differential between the i7-3770s and the i7-3770 or i7-3770k was substantial ($150-$250 difference at reliable vendors) and the performance of the ‘s’ (for ‘Slower’) was not that much of an issue. After upgrading my BIOS (more harrowing than the actual CPU upgrade), the i7-3770s dropped right into place and worked perfectly from the start. It is early days yet, but I can certainly recommend this CPU for anyone looking for a budget upgrade for their socket LGA-1155 Motherboard.

Great upgrade for an older home built from an i3. Doesn’t really compete with latest offerings, but excellent none the less
