What a weird and enjoyable phone
I’ve been using this as my main phone for a week now. That’s not a huge amount of time but I use the phone off-and-on constantly throughout the day for all manner of activities, both work and personal.**The Swiveling Screen**I’ll start with the most important thing. The swiveling screen is just lots of fun. It’s a little silly and sometimes awkward to hold, but I’ve enjoyed how weird it is. The swivel feels good, but I’d be scared to drop the phone while it’s “open.” And on that note, there’s not much for a phone case to grip onto with this phone. I purchased my case separately from Case-Mate, and the case has some adhesive inside, to hold the phone in place.**Rotations and Launchers**When the phone is opened in its T-Pose, you can rotate it any way you prefer, and the screens can adjust to suit that rotation. Just bear in mind that SOME apps can’t be used in landscape mode. (Instagram, for example, seems to be locked to portrait only.) One thing that was ALMOST a hiccup, is I downloaded an alternate launcher. At first it wouldn’t rotate to suit my needs, but I found a setting inside the app that allowed it to. So yes, if your launcher accommodates rotating, you’re not stuck using the Wing’s proprietary launcher.**Built-in Features & Camera**In its T-Pose mode, the phone has some cool built-in features. In the YouTube app, the second screen can act as video controls (volume, brightness, 10-sec skips, play/pause.) Or you can lock the second screen and use it as a grip, to hold your phone better. Another funny option is, you can use the second screen as a laptop style track-pad, and a cursor will appear to click things on the main screen. Apps can also be swapped quickly between the main and second screen, and vice versa, which comes in handy.Another cool feature, is the phone lets you create shortcuts on the second screen that pair up two apps of your choice, to your preferred screen. So, for example, I could have a shortcut that instantly opens Instagram on the main screen and Discord on the second screen. Or you could have Google Maps running on one screen, with your music app on the second. In its default state, the second screen limits which apps you can use on it. It won’t even show them in your app drawer. It bases this on which apps it thinks are fully compatible. However, if you go to the “Second Screen” menu in the settings, you can choose which apps to allow, and it will attempt to run them. So far, the only app that hasn’t worked for me on the second screen has been Snapchat. Every other app has been functional. This phone also has cool built-in features with the camera. ONE IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE is that the front facing camera is a pop-up! I didn’t know this when I bought it. Every time you activate selfie mode on Snapchat or wherever, a lens physical rises from the top of the phone’s body and then retracts when you’re done. It’s aesthetically neat, but it’s a little impractical. It makes a little motorized noise each time it appears or retracts. That said, however, the camera has other useful phone features. One is a gimble mode, which acts as an image stabilizer and has on-screen controls to move the lens view around left/right and up/down. The phone also lets you “dual record”, which splits the screen in half and records the rear-camera on one half and the front-facing camera on the other half. And last of all, there is a time-lapse feature, but I haven’t played with that yet. I haven’t heavily tested the camera abilities yet, but it seems to be as good or better than the Galaxy S21+ I’d been using.**Usefulness**So is this phone’s two-screen ability actually useful? For me, the answer has been sometimes. Mostly, it’s been a convenience but not a necessity. I’ve found that my most frequent use is to have a video playing on one screen while I browse social media apps on the other screen. And this reminds me of another perk. I don’t pay for YouTube, and so there are some videos (like music ones) that prevent you from running them in thumbnail mode as you’re browsing other apps. The LG Wing bypasses that restriction, because you can have the YouTube app open on one screen while you browse with the other. I love that.All-in-all, two years ago when this phone was $1000, I probably wouldn’t have said its unique swivel feature was worth the high price. But nowadays, since I bought the phone refurbished for $300, I’m loving it. It’s fun, it’s weird, and it does have some practical multi-tasking uses. I don’t think the second screen is going to spoil me, but I will admit that I’d miss it if it was gone.

Limited use cases, unlimited cool factor
So, real talk. This funky form factor is pretty much only useful for stabilized video and general media consumption. In the car, it’s great to have nav and music up at the same time. And people definitely aren’t used to seeing a phone flip out sideways like the Wing does. However, being cool and different is pretty much all the dual-screeniness is good for. Only LG’s proprietary keyboard will behave properly in dual screen mode, which means you’ll be flipping back and forth if you want to use anything else. Swiftkey is miles ahead of LG’s offering and to be honest, this is the only real pain point I have with the device. That’s a shame, since it really isnt LG’s fault. That said, since you’re probably reading this when the price of the device is $550 or less, that’s a heck of a deal. You could happily use this phone as a normal phone, no flippy screen at all, and be totally fine. It’s a bit thicker than other flagships for obvious reasons but it doesn’t sacrifice performance or battery life. Do note though, that the battery will drain VERY quickly with both screens on, especially in the car with brightness up.I’m not a pro photographer by any stretch but the few pictures I have taken came out looking fine next to the pictures from my Note 10+. The Note did a little better in the dark, but otherwise they’re basically the same. The gimbal-esque video camera features are super cool but I have yet to find a use for it. Parents filming their kids’ sporting events is the only use case I could think of but I’m sure there are plenty of others.Overall, this device performs very well for a $1000 device, and now that it’s cheap it is a great bang-for-the-buck performer that is still a very good daily driver. The screen thing may be a gimmick but it is a cool one and since the phone isn’t really compromised in the process, I don’t see a gimmicky second screen as a problem. I’m very happy with this phone, and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good phone that is a little different than the usual range of glass slabs and oddjob foldables.

Extremely Cool Form Factor
This phone makes me sad LG decided to stop making phones. This form factor is so enjoyable to use. Makes multi tasking fun. The phone arrived with minor wear and tear but nothing extremely noticeable. After a good two weels of use, it can get a bit glitchy with the lockscreen however, that isn’t a deal breaker for me. Battery life is ok for me but I can get thru a whole day off one charge, sometimes I may have to top off the battery. The refresh rate is 60 Mhz but again not a deal breaker. I think the display is beautiful and very peppy when scrolling. I also think the cam takes great pics and gimble mode is fun to use while taking video. The speaker isn’t the greatest seeing there is only one but again that isn’t a deal breaker. It’s very cool to flip out the winged screen. It is certainly a conversation starter. If you love tech and you can get your hands on this device, I say give it a try.

A collectors item and a great phone
LG phones are underrated but offer the best hardware, from the camera system to the Quad-DAC in their V-series phones, and the LG-Wing is no exception. The display on this phone is beautiful and vibrant, the camera system with the Gimbal functionality is great for recording outdoor events and the battery life is also good, LG is my brand of choice ( I hope they return to the smartphone segment)
