Solid, durable, flat response, reference headphones for studio, live, and DJ recordings.
Mackie has been a great company over the years with durable products at a reasonable price. Iâve used HR 824 studio monitors and SRM 450s for small rigs for over two decades with no issues. I started looking for a great set of 32-ohm 50-mm headphones for DJing after my Beyer DT-770s began to seriously age. The Pioneer X7s, AT M50X and Sony 7506s are all standards but they all suffer the same issue. Pleather flaking, boosted frequencies for the âlisteningâ aspect, and no travel cases. When DJing or mixing, I donât want added frequency boosts from a product. IMO, the EQ from my source should be the only changeable influence for my reference. I suffered from having bass boost headphones in the past because although my mixes were solid, my recordings were thin. Itâs because I wasnât pushing enough bass to the records. In my cans it sounded like I was pushing the low end to hard when I wasnât.These headphoneâs response are flat. If you come straight from a source itâs very close to what the source is producing. No mid harshness. No overdriven low end. At 32-ohms, these Mackies have a lot of headroom if you need balance in a loud environment. The headband and cups are comfortable and real leather. When I DJ, Iâm often mixing four to six hours. Thatâs where sweat eats through pleather, not with these. The construction is solid. The case and cables are a great touch! Big plus for Mackie including a $25+ case with the purchase. I dig the twist locking 1/8â cables but in a jam, any 1/8â would work. I bought a few additional braided cables for under $10 as spares just in case.Iâve compared these side by side with Beyer 770s, 880s, Pioneer X10s, X7s, Sennheiser HD600s, V-Moda 100s, and Sony MDR-V1s. Yes, the higher end 880s and X10s were more accurate but the Mackies performed great. At $110 including a three year protection plan, how could you go wrong? I highly recommend.Iâve worked in entertainment for 35 years as an LD, A1, Systems Engineer, and DJ. I hope your experience with these headphones is as good as mine. ðð»

Too small (for me)
Within 10 seconds of placing these on my head, I knew it wasnât right. Which is a shame because they sound clear and present. The headband though was extended all the way out and it still felt like it was still a bit small. Itâs not like I have some huge head or anything. Lesson learned I guess. Always try out mixing headphones in person. The case and added cables were a nice touch. But comfort has to number one. So is four stars fair? Hard to say because weâre dealing with a human shape. But someone had a similar complaint on another Mackie model so I donât think Iâm alone in this. Just letting ya know.

My go to headphones.
I have 4 other headphones in this range but these are the go to for daily wear. I pair them with an ifi DAC at home and then the DACs in the LGV50 when traveling.+The leather ear pads are comfortable and breathe well for long haul wearing.+They fit to a fatter head like mine well.+The sound for EDM, Rock (80s), and gaming is great. Highs are sharp but not overbearing like others in this range. Bass is clean and not overbearing. A flat profile works well.+ Cords detach.++++Build is solid. They feel like they can take abuse compared to the others.

Better than expected
I was skeptical at first being I was originally looking for Over the ear and these are On the ear headphones. After some use i can say they do sound great and are my favorite wired headphones

Review for MC 450 (not 350, despite what it might say below the title)
Incredible build quality (headband is 1/4 inch steel and real leather head/earpads) and an inoffensive but highly technical sound signature. Everything just comes through so clearly. All of my other headphones/IEMs sound veiled in comparison.I bought the MC 350 as well and while they did sound amazing for a closed back while maintaining the same build quality of the 450’s, their earpads are circular and rest on-ear rather than over like Beyer’s do. Combine that with an above average clamp force and you have a headphone that isn’t ideal in the comfort department. It isn’t SUPER uncomfortable but if you’ve worn on-ear phones before you know what I’m talking about.
