Interesting SOC device full of unlicensed games
So this is a cool little item, though it won’t knock your socks off with quality. What he have here is one of the many SOC (system on a chip) handheld gaming consoles that come pre-loaded with hundreds of vintage video games, which are presumably ROM images running (seamlessly) via some kind of emulator. In many cases, the original coin-op arcade versions of these games were on screens with portrait-mode aspect ratios, but every game on this console is oriented toward landscape mode. So that means either these are adaptations, and not the original arcade machine ROMs, or somebody figured out how to squash the images so the aspect radios would be compatible. One big complaint I have is that the games are not in alphabetical order and there’s no search function. So if you’re looking for a particular game, you’ll have to scroll and scroll and hope you find the one you’re looking for. This process is complicated by the fact that some of the classic arcade games you’re looking for are not listed under their real names. For example, Donkey Kong Junior appears as “Fruit Donkey,” and Donkey Kong 3 is listed as “Donkey Honey” or “Honey Donkey” (I forget which). The case and controls on this gizmo are not terrible, but they’re also not exactly iPhone-quality materials. This is a device made of mostly cheap plastic, and I wouldn’t expect it to stand up to a lot of punishment.Another thing to be aware of is that of the 416 games on this device, not all of them are suited to its particular type of controls. For example, in Xevious, the button for deploying your bombs is not right next to the button for firing your guns the way it would be on the arcade machine. So this is going to negatively affect your performance in the game.Sadly, unlike with emulator software on your computer, there does not appear to be any way of altering which key does what. And there’s no instruction manual included.I also don’t see any way of saving your game progress. But, of course, in the world of ’80’s coin-op games, we never got to save our progress.I have not tried to use this device as a power bank to charge my phone, but it’s cool that the option exists. So this product won’t change your life, but playing classic, eight-bit games on this device is arguably a better experience than trying to play them on your phone, using a touch screen. And you can’t get Donkey Kong Junior in the Google Play or Apple App store.

Good concept, but execution could be better
I grabbed this mostly just to see what would arrive, honestly. I’m not surprised one bit.The product box is nice and very presentable, so as a gift, it has that going for it. There is no manual in the box. No cables are detachable, with one that wraps around the perimeter to form a bit of a border, and the other functioning as a loop handle. Being grey, the cables are the only deviation from all black everything else. One cable has a lightning connector, while the other has a micro USB and USBC. It’s a clever design in that respect. The product feels a bit cheap to an (or this) adult, but a kid should be fine with it. The games are either mimics of (mostly) classic games, or modified original ROMs. I’ll admit that while I’m familiar with many of them, I’ve also never heard of (or have forgotten) many. Some of the games are listed under alternate names. There’s no indication of legal licensing. The games are not in alphabetical or any other logical order that I have recognized. I’ve found no way to save the games. Since these games were modified or not written for this control layout, you should expect that there will be playability issues. The labeling on the buttons is not colored, but since the labels are recessed, one could do the “crayon trick”.The device charges and will charge another device, though I used an older device as I didn’t want to plug my phone into it. I popped it open and found what I expected. It’s a small board and a largish phone-style battery that appears 8000 mAh.Overall, it’s maybe ok at the full $40 price, but it’s presently loaded with a coupon setting it at $30. Time will tell if it’s worth that purchase price.

    Fun and useful
Very cool gadget to charge devices and pass some time. Of course, it’s more of a novelty and it’s a simple console with simple games, but it’s still a nice addition to the battery.

It’s A Niche Idea, Not Very Useful Though
Some games on it have weird names, in comparison to what they actually are called (probably direct translation issues), there’s no way to search, and sadly, there is no way to save (to be expected though).- It is surprisingly light for what it is and the controls are pretty clickey.- The battery life to charge another device is not as hefty as I would like for how big it is, but it is also an emulator…..which requires a decent-sized screen….so…- It took me forever to get the apple’s lightning cable out in order to use it. It is not very easy to get out, if I did it right. The USB-C cable is easily accessible though.- There is no instructions, so that may be why it took me forever to figure out the above.Overall, it is a nice gimmick to bring along, but honestly, if you need to bring a charging pack, you probably won’t want to use the battery on it to play games, which could be better used to charge your phone and play games on it instead. I could see this device being used more for children as entertainment for the gaming emulator and to charge a device a little bit (so shorter trips), and rather have a separate, better charging pack to actually charge your phone with.
