    Awesome little handheld
I have about a half dozen of these handheld emulators. I tried to pick up the Miyoo Mini about a year ago, but due to shortages I was never able to get one. I moved on and got an Anbernic RG35XX. I found myself hardly ever using the RG35XX and I’m not really sure why. It still has the stock OS so I think that has something to do with it.On Black Friday, I saw a sale on the Miyoo Mini and somehow justified a purchase even though I’ve got several vertical handhelds. I heard good things about OnionOS so I decided to spend a little extra and get the one that had it right out of the box. That was a mistake. Don’t get me wrong OnionOS is great, but I’ve since got a new micro SD card and you can’t just copy the OS from one card to the other, so I had to install it from scratch, and it was so easy it is not worth it to pay more for a card with OnionOS installed.I recommend when you get your Miyoo Mino to take the card out and back it up somewhere so you have all the roms it comes with. Then throw that card in a drawer because it’s not a very high quality card and will likely fail. Get yourself a good 128GB Sandisk, Lexar, or Samsung micro SD Card and use that as your starting point. Next, Google “miyoo mini retro game corps”. The guy that runs the site Retro Game Corps, Russ, has lots of great informative videos and instructions on how to install OnionOS and it couldn’t be easier. Once you have OnionOS installed, then transfer your roms and bios directories over from your backup to your new card and you should be good to go.I now find myself playing this handheld more than any other, and not just because it’s new to me. The OnionOS experience is great, and I think that has a lot to do with it. The size, while small, is perfect for certain games. The Miyoo Mini is fully capable of playing PSX games, but depending on the game it’s a little rough. I don’t recommend this if you primarily play fast pace action games that use the shoulder buttons. I find myself mostly playing older RPG games that I missed out on. It’s easy to even play one handed. So far, I haven’t had any issue reading any text in games. The screen is crisp and the colors are vibrant. My only knock against it is the green LED on the translucent model bleeds through the plastic and it’s very distracting. It’s too bad it couldn’t be turned off via a setting, but I guess that’s impossible. It would take opening the case and painting over the LED, which is certainly doable, but I had to replace a screen on the RG35XX before and I broke off a few clips in the process, so I am a little hesitant to do anything like that now. What makes the Miyoo Mini so great? It’s small but still comfortable. The controls are great (except for the shoulder buttons). Onion OS is an absolute game changer and sets the bar on how good an experience with these types of devices should be. It is just so easy to slip into a pocket there is no reason not to take this with you just about everywhere.I would love to see a v5 with wi-fi and Bluetooth, along with brilliant OnionOS support for these features.

    Its beautiful and legendary…
The Miyoo Mini (and to a lesser extent Miyoo Mini Plus) are LEGENDARY in the retro gaming community. The prophesied handheld that everyone needed to get their hands on but couldn’t. Still to this day its hard to find, as soon as they restock on their official site its GONE… with that said, as much as I love this little guy I think its outclassed by one main rival… the RG28xx, it has a very similar design (despite being a horizontal handheld) similar color choices and drastically out performs the Miyoo… the screen on the 28xx is also GORGEOUS…I ordered this without hesitation because Ive been unable to get one since its launch and at this point their have been 3 additional variations/reworks of it, but again, I sadly don’t think its the best anymore, honestly I believe most people will pick the Miyoo Mini Plus or the RG35xx/35xx Plus over the original Miyoo Mini at this point, tho personally i think if youre looking for that form factor the original Miyoo mini is still better for its incredibly small size…Think of the original Miyoo Mini as owning a piece of retro handheld history that set the standard for everything after…But if you just want a good micro handheld with similar size and pocketablility, get the Anbernic RG28xx, use dual SD card set up (one in each slot) flash MinUI onto it, apply the panel fix (its in the MinUI EXTRAS download on their Github). That is the single best experience I’ve ever had with a handheld like this.RetroGameCorps as well as Retro Handhelds have guides on setting up a RG28xx with custom firmware and there are plenty of options, tho as I said I think MinUI is the best, I mention a panel fix, which is a remedy for some frame pacing issues that the RG__xx family as, but once you patch that it runs beautifully.

    A Neat Little Handheld
It’s a neat little system for sure. You’ll have to do a little work to it if you want certain games. It only takes a few minutes to reinstall the os and add the games you want on it. My only complaint is it isn’t very comfortable to hold on to with big hands if you’re playing a game that needs the left and right bumper controls.

    Underwhelming
Better off just playing games on a genuine console. The battery seems to hold an ok charge, but don’t use a fast charger on it – they don’t seem to like that. I really want to like it but it’s just not there.

I think everything about it is great. I went and got a new SD card for the Onion os install and it was easy. I used skraper for getting the game art for thumbnails. The system is solid and doesn’t feel cheap. The buttons aren’t mushy either. Overall just a great little system!

I wouldn’t recommend this as an entry-level device. You need to be comfortable flashing SD cards or willing to learn, because while Miyoo makes THE BEST device you can get in this category, the operating system is rubbish out of the box. Tinkering and setup are required to get this thing up and running. I recommend Onion OS for this device. While I do recommend this handheld, research Onion OS or other setup options first.I am no stranger to the retro handheld hobby, and like most of us, I have accumulated a lot of these devices over the years. The Miyoo Mini+ was one of the first devices I got and is definitely my favorite. I think I’ve found my second favorite. If you’re into turn-based RPGs that can be played with one hand, this device is perfect! Pokémon, Golden Sun, Final Fantasy… this thing is perfect! For action games, I generally prefer a horizontal layout, but even for vertical devices, you may find this a little too cramped. For games that require multiple buttons and shoulder inputs, you might find the small size limiting, and a larger device could be a better fit if that’s your preference. The display is very nice. I have heard complaints about the screen on the V4, but I think it’s one of the nicer displays I’ve seen from Miyoo. Perhaps they fixed it on this one. The controls all feel really good—this is one of the best D-pads I’ve used on a device this small. The shoulder buttons and triggers are positioned as well as they can be and give great feedback. To reiterate, this is a fantastic device. The hardware is nearly perfect for what it is, especially if you’re looking to one-hand some RPGs! You’re just going to want to fiddle with the software a bit… or maybe a lot! Happy retro gaming!😉

I’ve owned a Miyoo Mini in its second version since the days they were hard to get through limited drops. This new version does have some noticeable changes, like the larger screen, but also the build quality feels much better. Nothing is loose and everything feels tight, which is great. It plays games fluidly without noticeable slowdowns until up to the first PlayStation. You also get a ton of games from different eras with the device.Other than that, the default OS is much better than it was too, and other OS are available and easy to install. The battery is quite decent and the screen is very good, too. You don’t get any Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity, so everything needs to be transferred through the microSD cards, and you only get a 3.5mm jack. Also, if you have bigger hands, it is a quite small device, so your hands may get cramped after a while if you play a lot. Still, knowing that, the Miyoo Mini is one of the best choices you can get value-wise in its size category.
