My 2019 Retina 5K 27″ iMac came with 16gb factory installed – two 8gb cards. I bought these two 32gb cards to upgrade memory. Nothing could be easier – open the memory compartment in the back and install the two new cards. The factory cards were in slots 1 & 3 (or 0 & 2 if you want to use the odd Apple numbering). I left them in place despite Apple spec that 64gb was max for this iMac. Put the two new 32gb cards in the open slots 2 & 4 (1 and 3 for Apple purists) – closed up and restarted the iMac. It took 30 seconds or so to orient to and recognize the new memory, then booted up fine… no problems or issues and I now have 80gb of fully recognized and usable RAM in my computer. The OWC cards are cost effective, easy to install (press them down into the open slots) and work like a charm.

All good with this product so far. Small and compact. Support for installing it was helpful, but in the end I brought it to an Apple certified repair shop to get it installed. Once they did it, it worked. It couldâve used some better instructions. Seems that going from a small amount of RAM to quite a bit more requires a bit of a wait time when first restarting.
I thought it was defective but the repair shop said thatâs all it was. Theyâve seen this happen many times over the years. Went from 8g to 64g. If it doesnât turn on, they said just let it sit there for 10-15 minutes and then it turns on. Very weird as Iâve changed RAM in the past with no problems. In the end though, Iâm happy with it. Once it started all was good.

What a difference! fairly easy install, cheap, a world of a difference
Imac 2019 5k here. 8 Gb out of factory from 2×4 ram sticks. I tend to have a lot of things opened at the same time, but nothing out of the ordinary, a few chrome tabs, a few safari windows , WhatsApp, mail… It was ok with 8Gb but not lighting speed. I was getting the color wheel when trying to open a new tab sometimes.
I Wasn’t sure how much ram to get from Amazon but the cheapest approach was to do 4×8 since I dont do video editing or anything crazy, I didn’t thing anything over 32 would be useful.
Install: So they tell you to lay the Mac flat, which I didn’t do. I installed the new ram with the iMac vertical: I removed the old old and put the 4 new ones in place
I closed the memory compartment and the Mac wouldn’t boot a few times
I thought I installed them correctly but YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE EACH IS FULLY, FULLY, FULLY in. A slight off position and your computer won’t boot.
After trial #3, the Mac booted no problem. Back to were I left when I turned it off prior to ram upgrade.
I am now using about 10gb of Ram out of the 32 available but the Mac monitor, with the same apps opened as prior.
The difference is night and day when I do something, wether it is a webpage or opening iPhotos or pages, it is just instant.
At $150 , it is overall a cheap upgrade given how much money we put in our machines. Super happy with the purchase given the amount of time I spend on the computer, I appreciate the smoothness.

Caused computer issues
I will start by saying that I initially installed two of these 32GB memory cards to my iMac back in November 2022. Everything worked fine for a while, and then about a week ago my iMac started having some major problems. It took forever to start up, it would get stuck on the black screen with the Apple logo, and once my computer did boot up it was constant beach ball. I wound up taking my computer to the Apple store so they could run tests and diagnostics and sure enough once they removed the external memory cards everything worked fine again. Although this didnât cause immediate issues, I would definitely not recommend using these. If you are considering buying extra memory, make sure to get it from a reputable store like B&H so you can get a good warranty.

Dieser RAM von OWC, wobei ich das 64 GB-Kit gekauft habe, funktioniert im Mac Mini von 2018 problemlos. Bei meinem Mac-Modell handelt es sich um die Core i5-Variante, die ursprünglich nur mit 8 GB RAM ausgeliefert wurde. Für wenig Geld und eine halbe Stunde konzentrierte Arbeit, um den Mac ordentlich zu zerlegen, den Einbau zu erledigen und anschlieÃend wieder alles ordnungsgemäà zusammenzubauen, ist dieses RAM-Kit eine absolute Empfehlung.
Für ungeübte Bastler ist der Einbau allerdings nicht unbedingt zu empfehlen, da man unter anderem sehr kleine Torx-Sicherheitsbits benötigt und auf jeden Fall etwas Zerlegeerfahrung mitbringen sollte, um alles schadlos zu bewerkstelligen. Mit etwas Erfahrung ist der Einbau jedoch nicht wirklich schwierig. Ggf. sollte man sich ein paar Videos dazu bei einem bekannten Videoportal ansehen.
Der RAM wurde direkt nach dem Einbau beim ersten Booten voll erkannt, in der Systemübersicht korrekt angezeigt. Es waren keinerlei weitere Einstellungen notwendig. Er funktioniert seit vielen Wochen vollkommen problemlos, auch bei heftiger Auslastung des Mac mini.
Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist die lebenslange Garantie von OWC auf diesen RAM. Für schmales Geld kann man somit einem älteren Rechner nochmals ein verlängertes Leben schenken. 64 GB RAM machen sich ggü. 8 GB RAM massiv bemerkbar, was jedoch bei Kauf schon klar einkalkuliert war.
