CPU arrived well packaged, clean, and undamaged. This was essentially a drop-in replacement for my Dell Precision T3610 workstation. According to my research, this was the highest CPU that my T3610 would take. Working great. Ready to give my virtualization environment more work!

I bought 2 of these to upgrade the e5-2690 v0 2.9ghz CPU’s in my Dell r720(which I also bought from Amazon renewals). ESXi is much happier now, the increase to 24 cores allows me to run the same dozen VMs with Vcpu’s to spare. My CPU temps also dropped by ~ 8C. As a result my fan speeds decreased from a consistent 12k to ~ 5500 rpms. Much, much quieter. Very happy with the purchase.

Even though the Cheyenne superdupercomputer used the v4 version I feel like Im getting a vintage sportscar. Imagine if old ferraris just got dumped out for pennies on the dollar. I mean, why do they arbitrarily go up in value but not old processors? You cant even hand-build these suckers. With enough time and effort one could probably bang out some metal and repair old sportscars. We have it good in our cold cellars with our cool not-so-super-computers.

It is what it is, a ten year old server CPU. Works excellent in my 2013 Mac Pro, and I’ve had no problems with it.
