Awesome 5 star quality
I read a lot of reviews on many different headphones before I bought these Shure headphones. I will say these are the best, crisp, heavy sound while youâre behind the DJ mixer playing music and matching music. Hands down well worth every dollar. One thing they could have improved was the actually wire, itâs super long and thin, maybe Iâm overthinking it, I wonder how long the wire will last. Overall 5 stars.

Audio Technica ATH-M50’s vs Shure SRH840’s
For those wishing to just get the gist of it, I’ll sum this up rather quickly for you – if you are a musician looking for studio headphones, this is it. If you are an audiophile, this might not be it – it depends on what you define as neutral sound. Now, without further adieu…Ever had a dog? Lovely little critters they are. Sometimes. Until they chew the wires of your beloved Audio Technica M50’s – then you want to STRANGLE THEM!! Somehow, my Audio Technica M50’s survived the incident – thanks to the thick wire jacket. I covered the damage in electrical tape and all was well – for a few months, anyhow. About 3 months ago, the signal started to cut in and out, and within three days it settled on some kind of unlistenable, bass-less mono feed that quickly resorted in me looking around town for someone that could repair headphones. Unfortunately I live in a rather small town, and everyone I went to in the area told me the same thing: get a new pair of headphones. That or I could drive an hour to Birmingham and then go around that city for hours and just HOPE that someone would fix the things.Instead of going through that, however, I decided to look up some reviews, and see if I could make light of this scenario and just use it as an excuse to upgrade. I found that most people see the M50’s as some of the best headphones you can possibly get in that price range and you better believe I agreed with them. One particular comment I kept coming across, however, was that they were better suited for listening to music than for mixing it. No argument on them being good for listening – I listened to everything from Wu Tang Clan to Nine Inch Nails to Amon Tobin to Modest Mussorgsky and it all sounded fantastic. I had, however, come across many problems using them for mixing, particularly that they were such revealing headphones that I would spend hours nitpicking away at the tiniest thing and make literally no progress. Don’t fool yourself into thinking the revealing will be a good thing when it comes to mixing, much as I had been doing.Fast-forward to now, when I have the Shure SRH840’s in hand. With all of this setup in mind, let me lay out some simple pros and cons of the SRH840.PROS:- Up until this point I was not a firm believer in the “burn-in” period of headphones. I always thought it was imaginary and that the user was simply getting used to their headphones. Now that I have bought my second pair of high-end headphones I can say with FIRM BELIEF that burn-in is REAL. These things come with way too much high-end and not enough low-end but after about 5 hours of music it WILL tighten up. From what I’ve read, they tighten up even more over the course of several days worth of music.- These are incredible for mixing. Best gear I’ve ever had the honor of using. (While I have not BOUGHT many pieces of gear, I’ve used a lot, as I’ve traveled a bit) I had been struggling with a mix of a particular song for days using a backup pair of Phillips, and after the 5 hour burn-in period with my new SRH840’s, I played it and it was like magic – within 30 minutes I had the thing completely mixed. Not even kidding – literally a half hour.- I could tell that the mid-range of the SRH840’s was just a hair louder than the ATH-M50’s, which was my only real complaint about the M50’s regarding the freq range – this small adjustment seems to have brought it up to something that is as close to as neutral as I’ve ever heard.- Incredibly comfortable! No more cheap M50 pleather for me!- Replaceable earpads and cable is a huge plus. Particularly the cable bit as that is what drew me to the sale in the first place.CONS:- My M50’s were “a little big.” These things, by comparison, are HUGE. I mean %*$#%$%ING GIANT! On the other hand, if you have a big head, then no worries! But, even on my (sort of) large head, on the smallest setting, they slide a bit if I tilt my head far enough down.- The soundstage of the SRH840’s could learn a thing or two from the M50’s. If you want to experience Carnegie Hall in all it’s 3D glory, you’d be much better suited to something like the AKG 702’s, or of course, the Audio Technica M50’s (Which, while better than the SRH840’s, I have heard that nothing compares to the soundstage of the AKG’s).Hopefully this review will have helped you decide. Thanks for reading!

The high, mid, and low frequencies sound warm and clear.
I purchased these headphones in early 2022. After two years of average use, it continues to function with no audio degradation or physical wear and tear. This was a low budget purchase. I am not a profession audio engineer or technician. I use these headphones for composing music in Logic Pro on my Apple Mac Studio (M1 Max). The high, mid, and low frequencies sound warm and clear. The ear padding is comfortable, and the body is firm providing decent outside noise cancelling. There is very low sound leakage so you won’t disturb your roommate, guests, or family members. The package included a nice soft carry bag for the headphones, an extra set of ear pads, a coiled audio cable, and a threaded 1/4″ (6.3mm) gold-plated adapter. The detachable audio cable is proprietary and securely locks into the ear cup. Overall it has a balanced sound and personally think its was a good choice!

Amazing headphones. Your ears will thank you.
Let me start off by saying I have had these headphones for around 2 years. They are great. After two years of daily use, they are still functioning perfectly, and I’ve never had to replace the cable or the ear pads. Most of my other headphones eventually broke after a few months which is why I decided to invest in a more expensive pair. Boy, did that ever pay off. If you’ve never used a pair of studio monitor headphones before, the first thing you’ll notice when putting them on is how well they block out noise. They aren’t active noise cancelling, but the ear padding is nice and thick and plastic body is heavy duty, so it’s almost like putting on a pair of earmuffs. They have very low sound leakage, so even at high volume you won’t disturb your roommate or family members. They are very well made, as I stated above I have been using mine daily with no problems whatsoever. It comes with an extra set of ear pads, and the cable is detachable. The cable appears to be a proprietary connector, so replacements would have to be ordered through Shure. It also comes with a soft pouch which the headphones fold up into. If I had to choose one word to describe the sound of these headphones, it would be…clear. After listening to these headphones it makes all the phones I’ve had before it sound dull and lifeless (most of them were under $50). Earbuds are laughable compared to this. This highs are crisp and clear, the mids are full and warm, and it has a nice strong low end. It isn’t overly bass-ey like some headphones (cough cough beats by dre). Listening to super heavy bass tracks, it handles them nicely. It can produce sounds down to and below 30hz, at which point you just feel them vibrating against your skull. Overall they have a very balanced sound. These are amazing headphones and I would encourage anyone to pick up a pair. I have only two complaints regarding these phones (neither of which had anything to do with the headphones themselves). The first is that I have looked high and low and can’t find a hardcase to fit these in. The only ones I could find that they fit in are well over $100. The second complain is that when having a high quality set of phones like these, you can really start to hear the difference between low quality and high quality mp3s. This drives me absolutely crazy because listening to low quality music really defeats the purpose of having nice headphones. Overall, I give these headphones 5 start. I would recommend to everyone.

These are very good for monitoring your studio work. They are very comfortable and light. The ear pads fit nicely over the ears and greatly reduce the sounds around you, thus helping to eliminate any music feeding back into the microphone. This was a good purchase and suited my purposes for recording in studio. I would recommend them. Hopefully I will not have any issues with them, but if I do, I will contact Amazon and let them know. The were shipped to me in a soft envelope by Amazon, but fortunately, they are in a very well packaged box from Shure. The price was also great!Initially, I might add, there was a cable missing in the first order, however, Amazon sent me another set of headphones and I returned the original order. Everything was good after that! Thanks Amazon for making things right with this order!
