    Tube them.
Great as a reference headphone. However, if you are looking for some real pleasure listening and, want to keep using them. Slap these on a tube amp. Fantastic listening experience. If you wear glasses, you may want to hunt down some other pads. The seal on the stock ones is not fantastic and, pretty noticeably detracts from the bass response. Can’t fault Sony for my being blind though.

Great New Sony Closed Back Headphones
I have owned Sony MDR7506,7509,7510, 7520, and Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro in my professional film and recording career. The new M1 will replace my Beyers for audiobook recording for three reasons: superior physical comfort (better fit, lighter weight, less clamping, better cushions), and more comfortable sound. The Beyer have overhyped, super-detailed highs which create ear fatigue over many hours in the studio. In that way, they are like the harsh precision digital sound of CDs. The Sony M1 are more like an analogue LP, warm vinyl sound. More natural and less harsh and hyped. Infinitely better than 7506. At half the price of the former 7520, and a more even response with no overemphasized punches, the M1 are much more listenable for long recording sessions. No storage bag, but totally great to have TWO detachable cables of different lengths and NOT CURLY!!!! Very exciting and useful! (Curly weigh too much and pull on the headphones, especially lightweight ones like this.) REVISION: I would take issue with the two straight cables’ textured jacket. Inevitably it rubs on clothing and transfers physical noise into the left ear cup. When performing voiceover, this is darned distracting. A smooth jacket would not catch on clothing as much and would transfer less noise. This is a genuine drawback to the experience.

Replaced My Old Sony MDR 7506 headphones
Great sound and good looks but it is pricey. I took advantage of the Amazon no interest payment plan and it makes it a little more palatable. But truth be told, with my old ears, if I were to do it again I would probably just go with a new set of MDR 7506 headphones for less than half the price.I use these headphone with my ROKU remote and do some quiet listening late at night. I do not use them for recording or studio type projects.

    Crystal Clear
These are supposed to be audiophile quality and used for producing and monitoring but also is great for casual listening with quality. The other headphone I use for producing and mixing are the Audio Technica M50x which are well known in the audio industry but are obviously bulkier and heavier. These are way lighter and the screw in cable for more secure connection and no accidental detachment. What I do wish that Sony does is take this quality and implement it into their XM series of headphones which can add more versatility for one pair of headphones that can be bluetooth and then wired with this quality. I do think the price of these is a little high but you are paying for the quality but again, more worth it to combine with their bluetooth headphones for versatility.

    Updated Production Workhorse
It’s been almost a decade since I last did production work with a Sony headphone, the 7506. When the opportunity to try the New MDR-M1, I jumped at the chance. Currently, I use either the DT770 or the K371 for production work, and while they are excellent tools for production, the new M1 might become my main production headphone after working with it over the last week. The first thing I noticed about the new M1 was its weight. These headphones are incredibly light, and they are lighter and more comfortable than my current production headphones. I had initial concerns as I noticed some slight pressure on the top of my head from the headband, but the pressure disappeared after a couple of minutes. I ended up wearing these headphones for the better part of five hours on the first day having no issues with comfort. One minor caveat comes with the earpads. I did notice some touching of my ear against both the pad and, occasionally, on the driver. This was not uncomfortable to me and even became unnoticeable over time, but if you have larger ears and are sensitive to this, be aware. Sound isolation is good, and sound bleed was not mic-audible in any of my uses. Overall, I would give the comfort a 9.5 out of 10. It’s not perfect, but it is a time-tested standard that should be comfortable for most users. The next thing I was impressed with was the build quality. Initially, Some people have described similar headphones as feeling cheap due to the use of plastic and the lightweight nature of these headphones. Anyone who has spent time using these in a studio, or as traveling production headphones can attest to the durability of these headphones. My main complaint about my older 7506 was the lack of a removable cable. This updated headphone addresses that issue with removable cables while providing a locking mechanism for those who still demand a secure connection. I do wish that a carrying case or bag was provided as my previous headphones did as it adds some protection for travel, but this again is a minor gripe.Sound quality is what I would call production or professional grade. They are not going to sound as musically dynamic as many open-back audiophile headphones can present, but what it does exceptionally well is provide a relaxed, balanced sound that will not be fatiguing after hours of use. The bass was elevated but done very well. it was clean and punchy, with minimal bleed. Lower-range male vocals were a little boosted, but not in a way that was overtly unnatural. Just a little added fullness. The mid-range is presented expertly providing a strong point for mixing and mastering. This also makes these excellent for radio/podcast use IMHO. The treble is slightly smoothed out which goes a long way toward reducing fatigue over hours of use. Technicalities are good, but not exceptional. The staging of instruments was accurate and well-defined, but the depth and spaciousness could best be described as intimate. Overall, these carry on the legacy of the Sony MDR series while adding features that more of today’s creators demand.Overall, I feel most people will be happy with this revision. The updates Sony made are useful, and add value to the product without straying too far from the original standard. They are familiar while feeling fresh and revitalized. The cost may cause some hesitation, but as many of these headphones last for decades, I feel it meets the value proposition. If you do professional work or spend hours wearing headphones for work, Then these headphones should be on your radar!

    Short cable length
While these are very good true monitors the cable length is about a foot and a half, way too short.

Crystal clear in every frequencies. Deep bass and shining upper frequencies with studio quality voice output. Excellent. Only thing if Sony would have provided 4.4mm balanced cable with it. Endgame for me in headphones for the price.
