This External Sound Card to Enable Computer Surround Sound Works Well At A Great Price
I plugged this external sound card into a free USB port and it just worked, without any ‘looking for drivers’ routine. The sound is great. This solved the problem of my refurbished 32 gig RAM 1 Terabyte SSD computer I just bought from Amazon for under $179, having only a stereo output plug instead of a surround sound output like my old slow computer. I had surround sound computer speakers I wanted to continue to use. What’s really nice is how easy it is to output the sound to HDMI, for watching computer videos on the big screen television, and hearing the sound through our entertainment center’s surround sound speakers. I wrote the following note to myself: “To Watch Computer Videos on TV: Set the AV receiver to “Computer”. On the computer, at the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen, search for and click on “Sound Settings”. Find “Choose your output device” and click on the down arrow. Click on ‘AMD HDMI Output (AMD High Definition Audio Device)’ The sound will now go through the AV receiver to the AV center’s surround sound speakers! When you want to go back to the computer sound coming from the computer’s surround sound speakers, in ‘Sound Settings’, choose ‘Speakers (2-USB Sound Device)'” That’s what I do and so can switch the audio back and forth from the computer to the entertainment center. So amazingly, this product worked, it was quite inexpensive, and it did not have driver issues, so was any easy install. I’m quite pleased.EDIT: Don’t look for obscure drivers on the enclosed mini cd. Just plug in the USB cord. Don’t worry that you don’t have the usual “searching for drivers” routine. Just play some music. If need be, check that the output is correct under ‘Sound Settings’ as I described above.

Works, But Not the Quality of a PCIe Sound Card
I tried this because I have limited PCIe slots on my new Z790 motherboard, which also has only headphone and fiberoptic sound connections. I wanted to use my existing 5.1 speaker subwoofer system that needs the traditional PC sound jacks. This is a usb-connected external card and the fiber connection is simply pass through…no decoder. Now the unit did work with the usb connection, but with VERY limited quality and volume. For those that don’t have high expectations, this unit may be OK for you. But I returned this and purchased a PCIe sound card, and now all works MUCH better. As usual, you get what you pay for.

Works with the netflix app / Win 11
I had to search online for a driver made for Win 10. The company that makes the device doesn’t have the drivers, just a PDF of the manual, which I used to get a more technical name for the device so I could find a driver and some software from a 3rd party. The software is good for individually adjusting speaker volume, which is handy for a homemade surround sound system. So far I have only gotten it to work with the Netflix app. Not the browser Netflix, not Amazon app or browser, nor HBO. I haven’t tried any other major streaming services yet.I have not tried it for input. It wasn’t too expensive, so I have no serious regrets.

    SPDIF Out doesn’t work
SPDIF Out doesn’t work and, if it did, it would send stereo signal and not surround. I am returning this.I installed the software from the little CD with the drivers. The installation went through without a problem.(Image 1) This image shows the icon with the Red “P” letter, which is the icon for the sound card.(Image 2) If you double-click on the icon from (image 1) , the control panel will show up. The SPDIF Out option is inaccessible.(Image 3) Scrolling to the bottom of the control panel I can see that the SPDIF In is available but I don’t care about this option.(Image 4 ) We can see from this image that the sound card offers 5.1 surround but only if you connect through the 3.5mm plugs.(Image 5) The final image shows that the SPDIF option is unavailable but, if it did, it would only provide 2 channel stereo signal.CONCLUSION:The SPDIF Out doesn’t work but, even if it did, the signal pushed through this connection would be only a 2 channel stereo signal. When I got this 5.1 Surround Sound device, I expected that the output would always be a Surround Sound signal. What a waste of time! I am returning this item.

Six outs for my music making!
Windows 10 notes:Install the drivers, otherwise you’ll have a two-in, two-out Microsoft-driven device.Install the drivers and check out the applet by your system clock. Right-click to open, go to the speakers settings inside the app. RIGHT-CLICK THE SPEAKER ICON. There’re more hidden features there. It’s here that you tell it how you want to use the device – L/R, 5.1, 7.1, etc.Musicians – you’ll probably want to disable all those funky built-in-fx while you’re there. Non-musicians – you might like them :-)So far so good for me. I’m getting six discreet outputs for my Win10 system, bridged with a Behringer Uphoria via VB Audio Matrix and that’s a very capable system. At this price you’d be crazy to not give it a try.

Will not allow all 4 speakers to play.
I went through every setting there was and made sure to install included drivers and it only shows it as having two speakers available when Logitech 5.1 are connected.

You must find your own drivers, included disk is not enough.
You must find your own drivers, the included disk is not enough, and the files are damaged and will not fully install this device. If you decide to buy this you will need the CM6206-1.03(CR) driver set for Windows 8, this is fine for Win 10 and 11. Search CM6206-LX and find this version. The device is fine if you are able to install your own drivers, don’t even try the small CD that is included, it is garbage and should be treated as such. If you are just after the optical output there are better ones out there that are SPIF-only USB devices by Cubilux. I only bought this to use with a Microsoft Surface. It is very basic and you will get multi-channel analog and digital out if you use the drivers ver 1.03.

Würde ich mir nicht nochmal kaufen, da im Hintergrund immer ein permanenter Pfeifton ist. Ansonsten geht es.

For those that say “The SPDIF Out is just a screw….” or “I can’t get the SPIF Out working….” all I can say is that it is NOT a screw (but sure, the SPDIF optical outs do look like one LOL) and works if you use the correct driver. The chip used on the device is the Cmedia CM6206-LX. A quick Googling will take you to a website that provides the Win-8 drivers and chipset datasheet. On driver install….a red light is shown from the SPDIF Output (see photo)…..and I am very sure screws can’t do this! Lol.Product works fine. Unfortunately some people need more help in getting it going, so the seller could help a bit more I suppose (minus 1-Star).
