A well-built and affordable smartphone camera grip
This definitely feels like a well-made device by a company that has quite a lot of experience with photographic accessories, judging by the variety and number of products sold by Ulanzi on Amazon.. The CG02 feels nice and solid while still being light-weight. I would say that the texture of the grip area has just the right amount of grippiness. I am sure that many smartphones would fit in this grip. However, I would only encourage someone without a MagSafe phone to use it, as it is fairly difficult and fiddly to get the phone properly inserted into the clamp. Over time, this could result in scuffing the sides of any case you have on your phone. However, once inserted, this Ulanzi device does provide a very secure hold on the device and much improved comfort when using the phone as a camera. The light on this CG02 model could prove effective in low-light video conditions in close quarters, and three light brightness levels are selectable. The light and the detachable magnetic remote each have a USB-C charging port.. I am quite impressed by the quality of this product for such a low price; however, I’ll be using a MagSafe version of this accessory made by another company as it is much easier to rapidly attach to a MagSafe phone. I wish Ulanzi would make a MagSafe version of this device, as Ulanzi’s quality is higher.

Performance
Once I placed place it on the iPhone you get the feeling that it is a traditional camera. First your fingers do not have to keep touching the screen to take photos except for changing angles or aperture. Second it is not bulky so you can place it in your pocket (I have a strap on my iPhone which makes it easier to carry). Third the photos come out fine and you can point to your target with confidence that the iPhone won’t fall from your hand. The battery is ok in fact it lasts as long or perhaps longer that the one in your iPhone. Yesterday I spent more than 2 hours taking photos and it worked fine. However, the description that come with the product is too concise. One additional thing is that you can remove the shutter to take remote photos. For example I need to understand the light it has. What is the use? Another thing is that though it has a space to screw a tripod it did not consider that you might have a different type of tripod. The one you attached to the camera. I have one of those and when attached I could not use the shutter. At any rate it is a good item.

I really like this product. I purchased this for my trip and took it to France. It felt really great in my hand, better grip and felt like actually holding a camera. Unfortunately, 2nd day using it and the power buttom/shutter button fell off. I’m not sure when. Now, I no longer can power it up and connect to my phone. I’m so disappointed. The light is the only thing that works.

One of the best things Ulanzi has produced!!
In my photo, you can see I have the old one which is custom mounted to a phone as is the new one. The old one does the trick of being a Bluetooth remote shutter button, but the new one with the light is way better designed with the magnetic remote and the grip looks a bit futuristic and feels way nicer. I really wanted it on my iphone 12 pro’s beastcage, so I sawed it off and glued it to it. Now it’s a DSLR!!! A powerful photo snapping/filmmaking machine!!! I my have to buy another one just to have it not mounted for other devices. So proud of this purchase. Ulanzi got it right! I’ve been Ulanzi loyal since I first bought stabilizers and mounts. A very exciting company and they produce quality usable tools for photographers, filmmakers, & especially mobile filmmakers & photographers. I couldn’t praise them more. So thankful this company is around doing what they do better than many others.

What can I say about the ULANZI CG02 Smartphone Camera Shutter Handle Grip? I really like this. It works on a couple different levels. It’s a simple idea, and I see there’s a lot of similar products out there, but I’m really pleased with this. A little impressed as I didn’t expect to be as pleased with this as I am. Maybe it’s just the novelty, or nostaligia, of having my phone feel and operate more like the cameras I grew up with.My phone fits into the clamp better without the case, but it will hold the whole kit as well. The bluetooth connects easily with my phone. The response time between the remote and my phone is nonexistent. Turn it on it’s side and the unit turns into a great little phone stand. Best of all, this has helped me keep my fingers out of the frame when I am taking pictures. The fear of someone knocking into me and my phone hitting the pavement have been greatly reduced as well. The handle provides a more substanitial grip and a better touchpoint. Let’s be honest, most of us aren’t as aware of our surrounngs when we ae trying to capture the moment. This helps.The cold dock holds a lamp and the threading on the bottom works with both my tripods. The magnetic remote stays in place really well. It would really have to take a bang beforte it popped out on it’s own, but is easy enough to remove when needed. It’s light in weight and small enough to fit in a pocket. Personally, I would have preferred it to be a little larger, given the size of my hands.Battery life of both the remote and the lamp seem pretty solid. I have had this for a couple weeks now and have not had to charge it yet. In fairness, I don’t use the lamp all that much, but it’s still going and in full working order. The adjustable brightness is a nice touch, but a warmer tone would have been nice. It also projects well enough within the confines of an average size room.Negatives? Only one that I can come up with. There is no wrist strap. Life happens and so do accidents. Even moreso when you are trying to capture that perfect picture. An extra touch point would provide a sense security in the event of something unexpected happening. It’s been a standard feature on cameras for decades for clumsy people like me.
