A good product, but takes a little tinkering
I bought this product for my dorm room so I can play games, watch movies, or enjoy music in 5.1 surround sound. I definitely like the product, I’m able to tell actual from virtual surround sound and I love it, it just takes a little messing around with on the included disc. The sound card settings software doesn’t make itself apparent at all and requires a little digging into files to find it and even then, the software is called “facelift”, which doesn’t give any hint to that being the sound card controls. It’s a little tedious, but I believe it’s worth the hassle because now I can use my 3ds and other devices just using the line in and an aux cord and enjoy the music on my speakers.(Facelift is found on the disc under [Your version of Windows] > SoftwareDriver > DLL > CPL > x64 or x86 [Depending on your processor])Hope this helps people.{Update} Upon further tinkering, I found out how to shift the settings to true 5.1 and I’m rather disappointed because there’s a high pitch sound running through my speakers that I don’t know how to fix. So, I’m contemplating whether to just give up and look for a better option or if there is some way to fix this issue. This is still a decent porudct but, not for what I’m looking for.{Update 2} I found my problem and that was having an additional aux cord in my computer which was unnecessary, so I’m set with this product and back to enjoying music and video games on it.If anyone needs an explanation on how this product works, I can give a lot more info about the product that what comes in the box

    Pretty fantastic.
I didn’t see this while skimming over previous reviews: This device uses a C-Media CM106 chipset. The included CD installs a Xear audio utility along with the C-Media drivers. THESE ARE NOT NEEDED TO USE THE DEVICE – Windows 10 found generic drivers for it instantly, which did make all ports available. The C-Media drivers installed without issue using the CD.With the Windows generic drivers you get some basic enhancements (loudness equalization, bass boost, etc). With the C-Media drivers you lose those (notably, there’s no equivalent to the loudness equalization effect that the generic provides), but gain a simple graphic EQ and environment adjustment, virtual surround effects (which actually sound great when you find the right combination of settings), and a karaoke adjustment for the mic port.Using this on an extension cable from a USB hub, the sound is crystal clear with no background static. The line-in jack does have a hiss when nothing is plugged in and it’s set to relay audio, so if you’re not using it, don’t do that. I’m only using this with 3.5mm, but Windows does show the digital input and output ports as ready and working with both the C-Media and generic drivers. Is it better than your onboard sound? Maybe. Probably. Just at the defaults the sound was exactly the same as my laptop’s, but with a little tweaking in the Xear settings it’s quite a bit better than I could ever manage with Realtek’s stuff. Having the options for line-in and optical ports is just icing on the very cheap cake.

Works good for what I need
I’ve had this product for quite a few years and it works fine for what I needed. I only deleted one star because the case is poorly made and I have to use a long zip tie all the way around it to keep it together.

    Absolute garbage
I don’t know if you can get any cheaper than the quality this thing possesses. The box, didn’t even look retail, it probably wasn’t, just had a white sticker on a plain brown paper thing cardboard box with a barcode and the name of the product. Upon opening it, it looked like it was used.. it could havve been new, but again, the quality is junk. The “manual” wasn’t even cut straight, and appears to have been printed out a regular sheet of paper, which they cut into 1/4ths, as part of the other manuals is still visible due to the shoddy cutting. Someone is obviously buying these in bulk and reselling them, who knows whatr you’re gonna get.Anyway, I figured I could get past the quality, if the thing worked decent… which it didn’t. I plugged it into multiple ports on 4 different computers at work and home, and not a single one recognized the device, let alone anything being plugged in. Even with different cables, hoping that was the cause, I still was unable to even get this lump of cheap aluminum to register at all.Save your money, throw in a little more and get something with an actual brand on it. I will be returning this, can’t even say paperweight as it has no heft at all, garbage, to the sender and hopefully get my money back. I should have known better, but it had decent reviews, but apparently those are all old, so maybe they started cutting corners within the past year.

    Decent External Sound Capture
Overall, I do think this is a decent product. It has its quirks, but I do think it’s worth the money.Pros:- It’s a small device that can be taken just about anywhere.- It’s a cheap way to get audio capture from practically anything.- It has SPDIF inputs an outputs.- You can have 5.1 surround sound as an output.- It comes with decent software to set it up with, called Xear Audio Center. You’re able to adjust the volume by decibel for each input/output, and individually change each ear’s decibel level.Cons:- When listening, it has a very distinct and high-pitched hum. The best way I’ve been able to counter it is by turning the device itself down, while turning what I want to listen to up.- All audio inputs have a tinny sound.- If you tap or move the device while listening to something capturing, you can hear it.- The audio outputs are tinny and at times, was delayed by about half a second to a full second.- While it does come with software,, the software doesn’t do much. All it can do is enable what you can hear (inputs and outputs) and change the volume.

I upgraded my old computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I did that, my sound blaster audigy sound card stopped working and there were no available drivers for windows 10. So I came across this and was a little worried about using USB for audio. But when it arrived and I plugged it in, installed the drivers, it worked great. It has it’s own setting and EQ interface which makes things easier to control sound levels. I haven’t had a chance to test it for recording sound. Usually there is latency with usb so hopefully it is not too bad. It is very light and small and super easy to set up. Very happy with this.

The only way I could achieve 5.1 sound from my laptop was to send it over the Display Link cable to my monitor which had 5.1 out ports that were connected to my sound system. This worked fine until my monitor gave it up, and in my search for a new one found that audio throughput was something of a rare novelty without paying a fortune. Instead, I bought a standard display only monitor and this product to output my 5.1 sound. No, my audio outputs via USB straight through this to my sound system. It just works!

People complaining about loose USB port on device, just plug the cable in and bathe it with hot glue and it’ll stay in place for eternity.Everything is cool except that it’s generic and there are no “real drivers”, so no control panel that you might get with Creative SoundBlaster for example.

Unlike a few others who had provided reviews on this product, I had a very positive experience with this device.Even though I chose the free shipping option, it was literally delivered the next day to my pleasant surprise. My intent for this device is to enable me to use my old power speakers just sitting around collecting dust to get some surround sound experience. For this purpose, it is working out really well.Once the device was connected to the usb port, Windows 10 recognized it and automatically installed a generic driver. That did not work well at all. But after I installed the driver that came with the device on a mini disc, the device is functioning well and enabled a whole host of configuration controls in delivering a customized surround experience. So, no complaints at all and am happy indeed. Also, I don’t use the SPDIF input/output, so I cannot comment of that.

Never got this to work. Windows 10 detects and installs this device but nothing happens when I plug in the optical audio. Bought in July and never had a chance to return the product in time…Ler me know if anyone actually got the optical audio inputs to work.
