Great sounding headphones
I use these headphones with my Yamaha a-s1200 amp when I donât want to disturb the wife and kid with my loud music. Iâve got to admit they are overkill paired up with that amp. They are loud. Really loud. High sensitivity, low impedance, exciting, very detailed, muscular sounding at times (specially with Modern music, pop, hip hop, metal). Thereâs some heft to them and the built feels premium. Cushions are very soft. I donât get why people complain about their weight. They seem just fine to me. Probably younger folks who didnât live through the 70âs and 80âs era of really heavy home audio headphones. I do enjoy them. Judas Priest sounds like theyâre supposed to. I get every detail out of Nina Simoneâs music. Steely Dan sounds magical The sounds of recordings by Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost has been upgraded with these headphones. Besides that I do not have anything bad to say about them. Iâm in my 40s so to these older ears they sound just right.,,/

Stellar comfort / Incredible sound
Iâve owned a pair of the MT7s for a long time and have loved them. However the MT7 gets a little uncomfortable after an hour of use. The MT8s are amazing comfortable. In a side by side comparison itâs obvious the quality upgrade in materials. I just had an editing session for hours and they rocked the whole way through.Sound quality, is excellent! In another comparison the MT8s have a richer and warmer tone. Itâs very easy to hear when you have a high end a little too high. My engineering in sound is with music recording and mixing, and with video production. Iâm very comfortable saying these are an excellent solution for you if your looking for a great set of cans. The one con is the detachable cable and how it connects to the headphones. Iâm not really certain if itâs the unit itself or the jack set up… but when you move around, you can hear the cable brushing your shoulder or arm almost like a vibration in the headset. It has thrown me off a couple of times so I would suggest when you are in you final cut or master using this product, hold still enough so the cable doesnât add any artifacts to your ears while making you important choices.

A real awakening
I’ve been using a set of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros for recording purposes for several years now. Always liked them. I put the Yamaha headphones on and noticed two things immediately. First, the mids are much more pronounced. The details found there emerge and completely change how I hear the music. Second, the bass is much more “boomy,” but the tone is smoother. Sounds strange, but that’s what I hear. Overall, I hear greater depth of the soundstage. I’ll have to play with them for a bit to see if I like the bass aspect. It might be fatiguing using settings that I’d apply with the Sennheisers. Then again, I need to readjust some of my mixes and listen to them on regular speakers to see if, perhaps, the Yamahas are more accurate.

To the person who returned these headphones…
Thank you whoever you are, seriously. Your return allowed me to purchase these headphones at a great discount from the Amazon Warehouse. Iâm not sure why you returned them but I found them to be flawless at their price point. These phones are almost as good as my Fostex T60RPâs in sound representation and even have a very, very slightly more accurate imaging with razor sharp details in the highs but with more bass, thankfully not Beats grade muddy bass. These headphones werenât even broken in yet and they sound that good. What makes these phones better than My Fostexâs is that theyâre easy to drive with no amp required, rendering these cans useful on the go. Donât get me wrong, the T60RPs are my go to headphones for sonic pleasure, but for anywhere else away from my amp these Yamahas meet my audio needs. Are they worth full price? Yes, but theyâre a steal when discounted.Update: Good news, Audio Technica ATH-M50x replacement cables will work with this headphone. Even the lock pattern on the 2.5mm male jack is identical.

Excellent Headphones for People who âListenâ to Music
I owned the MT7âs and after reading reviews decided to buy the MT8âs. Before that I had the bright idea of buying the Sennheiser HD560 S with open back style cups. I knew in 10 minutes they were not what I wanted because in comparison to the MT7âs it seemed the mid range and low end of the sound was missing. I pair the MT8âs with my Astell & Kearns SR25 and the experience is exquisite. Whether Jazz, R&B, Classical, or Chris Botti with Yo-Yo Ma; you will not be disappointed. The build quality is solid; the fit, feel, and comfort is wonderful.

Very good headphones – perhaps a bit bass heavy
I’ve spent decades listening to headphones and these are very good. I have a pair of new Yamaha HS-7 studio monitors in a well treated room that I’m comparing these to, as well as a pair of Shure SRH440 phones. Then I brought in a pair of Yamaha HS-8 monitors and the fun began. My conclusion is that the HS-8 monitors and these MT-8 headphone both have a bigger, fatter, and deeper bass response than the HS-7 monitors or than the SRH440 headphones and as a consequence the midrange and highs are just a bit under represented – to my ears, in my room. The overall quality of the sound of both 8’s is a bit darker with a bit less clarity of everything above the bottom end. In my case I seek a perfectly balanced mix so I prefer the HS-7’s and the SRH 440’s. However, it’s also true that headphones couple to different individuals’ heads in different ways, so your listening experience may certainly differ. And lots of people prefer the HS-8’s. And some people add subwoofers to the HS-7’s. So, you’ll have to try things for yourself. Hope this helps.

Ces écouteurs sont simplement les meilleurs que j’ai eus au cours de mon existence. En les déballant, j’ai été surpris, très surpris même par leur grande qualité. Les coussinets sont douillets. Leur construction : first class ! Merci !

Itâs really awesome, I mean the sound quality of Yamaha has always been great but this is so damn great. But just a little unsatisfactory cuz It only came with one wire, where itâs supposed to come with 2 wires. Other than that itâs amazing. Thank you so much ð

The Yamaha HPH-MT8 Monitor Headphones, Black is a Good design, which developed and designed by excellent Yamaha designers. The unit sounds okay and well built from Taiwan a good technological nation in Asia. This is an average model not too costly like the flagship model of AKG that costs almost $2500. Taiwan nation makes much better headphones than China nation. The Klipsch headphones I purchased years ago at Best Buy Made in China is worst!, these headphones broke the “C”-shape part when used! Due to it made from cheap plastics! not stainless steel like the Yamaha HPH-MT8. Therefore, I would never buy headphones made in China anymore! Only in Japan, EU, USA headphones that commonly are high quality and high performance and durable ones.

These headphones are one of the best. It gives us even the minute details of a song. The only thing I disliked was the treble is little high which could be a problem for mixing but if you’re a composer or a musician or for listening it would be great!

These headphones are most excellent for mastering vocal recordings. As a vocal recording artist, these monitor headphones are true to the ear. Extremely soft yet durable leather feeling cushions around the ear, make these very comfortable. The detachable cord is a HUGE perk. The base is so true and accurate and not overpowering, just perfectly balanced, across all frequencies. I wouldn’t suggest spending this much money if you’re only going to listen to music, I would suggest another high-fidelity headphone for that, but if it’s mastering perfect audio, these are for you.
